🌟 Honoring Resilience and Colleen Fraser on September 11 🌟
On this solemn day, we remember the tragic events of September 11, 2001, when our world changed forever. We pay our deepest respects to the lives lost and the countless heroes who emerged from the darkness. We remember Colleen Fraser, our dear friend and executive director at the time, who was aboard Flight 93, the fourth hijacked plane on September 11.
Today we celebrate the strength, courage, and resilience that unites us as a nation. In the face of adversity, we have seen people of all abilities come together, reminding us that together is what make us stronger as a society.
Today, and every day, let us honor the resilience within us all.

ABLE today, ABLE leaders, including State Treasurers and state program directors, provide an introduction on ABLE accounts and highlight personal stories of enrollees.
ABLE accounts allow individuals with disabilities to save money that is not counted towards asset limitations set by means-tested benefit programs such as Medicaid or SSI. “Asset limits” prevent people with disabilities from saving money beyond $2,000 (a typical asset limit) and planning for their future.

❕Got Transition is working on a 2-year project, funded by the Lucile Packard Foundation for Children’s Health, to examine barriers and policy options for youth with special health care needs (YSHCN), particularly Black YSHCN, aging out of four public programs: SSI, Medicaid, CHIP, and Title V Programs for Children and Youth with Special Health Care Needs. They are working with a national advisory group on this effort.
They would like to hear directly from families with young adults ages 19-25 who have or are in the process of aging into adulthood and losing childhood eligibility for the four public programs. It will help them better understand the challenges that Black YSHCN, including those with disabilities, and their families face during this process. Your response will be anonymous. They plan to summarize the anonymous responses to this question in a report, which will include recommendations for how to better support Black young adults and their families as they age out of the four public programs.

JULY IS DISABILITY PRIDE MONTH!
July is Disability Pride Month, a celebration of the pride felt by individuals with disabilities. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) was signed into law on July 26, 1990. It was on this day that the first Disability Pride Day was held and it has evolved into a month-long celebration.
July is recognized as a celebration of heritage, disability culture, and the achievement of people with disabilities. Celebrating Disability Pride Month provides an opportunity to remove the stigma and recognize the natural part of human diversity, which includes people living with disabilities.
The Disability Pride Flag, by Ann Magill, represents the following:
Black: This field represents the disabled people who have lost their lives due not only to their illness but also to negligence, su***de, and eugenics.
Red: physical disabilities
Yellow: cognitive and intellectual disabilities
White: invisible and undiagnosed disabilities
Blue: mental illness
Green: sensory perception disabilities
