New Jersey State Council on the Arts We encourage and give financial support to artists, arts organizations, and projects throughout NJ. The New Jersey State Council on the Arts, created in 1966, is a division of the NJ Department of State.

The Council was established to encourage and foster public interest in the arts; enlarge public and private resources devoted to the arts; promote freedom of expression in the arts; and facilitate the inclusion of art in every public building in New Jersey. The Council receives direct appropriations from the State of New Jersey through a dedicated, renewable Hotel/Motel Occupancy fee, as well as c

Riverview Jazz announces Covid-Relief Grant for local jazz musicians.

The grant will award ten recipients with a check of $2,000. Applicants must be 18 years of age or older,
reside in Hudson County, and be a performing jazz musician. The deadline for applications is May 16,
2022 and the winners will be announced at the Jersey City Jazz Festival June 4-5, 2022.

Ernest Aryeeis a creative professional whose experience spans the fields of ceramics, business, and construction engineering. Born in Accra, Ghana, Ernest credits his education in Ghana and the vibrant creative and intellectual atmosphere within his family for influencing his decision to be an artist. He is widely-traveled as an artist and educator, and organizes “The Accra Sculpture Invitational” residency program which encourages artists to experience the indigenous crafts environment of Ghana. The Black Artist Resilience (“BAR”) Grant, in honor of ATA Founder Victoria LeBeaux Clark Craig, is open to Black visual artists based in New Jersey. Eleven (11) artists will receive $1000.00 each.

Grantees will be selected on the basis of need and the merit of their work. The deadline is Sunday, May 1 at 12 midnight.
