Reminder: Please complete the ESE Parent Survey via the link below or the paper copy that was sent home in February.

Each year, the Florida Department of Education surveys parents of children with an individual education plan (IEP) to determine how well your child's school is partnering with you and promoting your involvement in your child's education. All states must collect data as a part of their State Performance Plan, as required under the Individuals with Disabilities Education Act (IDEA). The web-based survey opens Feb 1, 2021, or you can request a paper survey from your child's school. Your feedback is important in helping state and local school systems continue improving educational programs for children with special needs. Thank you for participating!

Happy New Year! This month's character trait is GENEROSITY. Generosity means "carefully managing my resources so I can freely give to those in need." As we move through January and beyond, let us all practice generosity in our daily lives.

This morning, the Gilchrist County Sheriff’s Office responded very quickly to a fire alarm being inadvertently set off on the THS campus. Although this turned out to be a non-emergency, we are grateful to our first responders for always keeping us safe! The campus has now been cleared by the GCSO, and all is well.

12/07/2020

We are sorry for the inconvenience of closing Trenton schools early today. However, there are times when situations change, requiring an adjustment to our plan. We want to thank parents, our school teachers and staff, bus drivers, and administrators for quickly and efficiently responding to today’s situation to ensure all students were safely delivered home.

We will be on the boil water notice for tomorrow; therefore, we are encouraging all students to bring water bottles from home! We will have emergency drinking supplies at the schools as needed.

12/07/2020

~~FOR TRENTON SCHOOLS ONLY~~
Buses will begin running their routes at 12 pm today. Students will be arriving home approximately ONE HOUR earlier than originally planned. IF your elementary child is a bus rider and NO ONE WILL be home to receive him or her early, please call the school immediately so we can have a plan for each child. All drivers have been instructed to keep elementary students on the bus if no one is at home to receive them. We will run each route a second time if needed to deliver all children home safely. Your child’s safety is our number one priority.

If your child is normally a car rider, he or she will be at the school in the regular designated area for parent pick up starting at noon. If your child is a walker, he or she will be released at noon.

12/07/2020

Unfortunately, we’ve just been notified that the City was forced to shut the water off early. They are expecting the water to be off until at least 12:30 p.m. ALL parents who are able may pick children up from both Trenton schools immediately. Please follow all regular parent pick up procedures. For high school students who drive, parents must call the school to give permission for them to check out. For those students who remain on campus, we are working on a contingency plan. We will keep you notified.

Our Character Trait for the month of December is "gratefulness." As we move closer to Christmas Break, we want to express how grateful we are for the resiliency, flexibility, and hard work of our teachers, staff, students, administrators, parents, and community. Merry Christmas from the Gilchrist County School District Office!

12/04/2020

We are aware that the City of Trenton has shared information regarding the planned water shutoff scheduled for Monday at 10:30 and that this timeline may be a concern to parents of TES and THS students. However, we have worked closely with city officials who have assured us that, although the goal is to start the process at 10:30, water will not actually be turned off until later, in alignment with our previously shared Early Release schedule. Rest assured that we are maintaining health and safety as our priority as always.

12/03/2020

Due to an unavoidable water shut off in the City of Trenton, Monday, December 7, will be an Early Release Day for TRENTON SCHOOLS ONLY. The elementary after school program will be cancelled for the day, but all high school after school activities will continue as scheduled. State testing scheduled for THS will be pushed back by one day. We are very sorry for any inconvenience this will cause. THS dismissal will be at 1:00pm and TES dismissal will be at 12:50pm. AGAIN, this is for Trenton schools only.

The Gilchrist County School District is happy to welcome our new Superintendent, Dr. Jim Surrency! Our schools have had years of academic high performance under Former Superintendent Rob Rankin, and we are confident that this trend will continue under Dr. Surrency’s leadership, in concert with the resiliency and perseverance of our teachers, staff, students, parents, and community. Below is a message from Superintendent Surrency:

“Gilchrist County, I want to thank you for the honor and the opportunity to serve our schools and community in this role. I have been and continue to be extremely proud of the strength and flexibility of our team. I want to assure you that health, safety, and quality educational services will continue to be the priorities of this district. We are in the business of preparing students for futures that we cannot always predict. We take this responsibility very seriously. My goals as Superintendent are to continue improving communication so that we can act as informed partners in the education of our community’s students, keep college and career readiness as a focus, and to maintain continuous improvement through difficult times. Although we are experiencing challenges like we have never seen before, I am confident that we will press onward as a school family, and we will get through it. I have an open door policy, I encourage collaboration, and I welcome your continued support of our high performing school system."

11/11/2020

Good morning! We have been in contact with the Gilchrist Emergency Management team. Due to the potential for tropical storm force winds and unsafe travel conditions, Gilchrist County will cancel school for Thursday, November 12. At this time, we do plan to be open on Friday, November 13. However, if anything changes, we will let you know. Everyone stay safe!
