Have some extra veggies or food scraps? Collect them in a bag in the freezer and make broth or stock for soups, stews and other recipes whenever you can or whenever you need to. Doing this can reduce food scraps sent to landfill and make a delicious homemade stock. You can get creative with the combination of veggies and ingredients you use or consult a recipe to start with.

Check out all of the local reuse programs!

Reuse, one of the "3 Rs" in the "Reduce, Reuse and Recycle" slogan, is a familiar concept to most people, but less is generally known about the many reuse organizations that exist for a wide variety of items. For example, reuse organizations accept the following used items and a whole lot more:

Bicycles
Sewing machines
Toys
Medical equipment
Clothing
Eyeglasses
Books
Tennis balls
Furniture

Reuse programs not only keep materials that would otherwise be discarded out of the waste stream, but they also make quality products available to people and organizations with limited means. These programs also generate jobs and contribute to the economy. So, instead of tossing unwanted items in the trash, consider donating them to one of the many reuse organizations that can be found both locally and nationally. The Mercer County Improvement Authority is aware of missed areas during Friday and Saturday's makeup collection. Due to weather over the weekend, the haulers were unable to safely finish collecting missed areas on Sunday. Please bring bins in and place them out on your next collection day. Drop-off locations are available for residents who do not wish to wait until their next collection day. Please see the list below for recycling drop off locations:
