A short while ago, Governor Murphy declared a State of Emergency in response to severe weather and flood conditions throughout the state in the next several hours and into Saturday morning. While the most severe weather conditions will be concentrated in the northeastern region of the state, Trentonians should be aware, take precautions, and avoid significant travel for this evening. Congratulations to Mercer Street Friends and B.C. Gregory Elementary School for their collaborative effort in opening the first of three Choice Food Pantries in the Trenton School District, as part of a comprehensive Family Resource Center. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. Middle School and Luis Muñoz-Rivera Elementary will host future sites.

Open on Tuesdays from 2 - 6 p.m. and Thursdays from 8:30 a.m. - 12 p.m., the pantry will offer Gregory School families a nutritious selection of foods provided by the Mercer Street Friends' food bank.

In addition to the food pantry, families visiting the resource center will have access to services to assist with SNAP benefits (formerly known as food stamps), housing, immigration, legal, parenting, adult education, and mental health. By the end of October, a section of the center will be a dedicated technology room with laptops, printers, fax machines, and office supplies, all provided by Mercer Street Friends. Families will have access to the room for online appointments and interviews.

Congratulations to Isles Inc. as they prepare to launch GoTrenton!, an all-electric on-demand shuttle service to give Trentonians access to safe, reliable, and sustainable transportation around the City.

Starting next week, riders may request one of the six GoTrenton! shuttles by using the Circuit app, scanning the QR code on a vehicle, a handout, or a poster around the City, or requesting a ride through one of the GoTrenton! kiosks that will soon be available at multiple locations around the City. After a free first trip, GoTrenton! will charge $2 for subsequent rides.

Shuttles will be limited to the Downtown Trenton area and its surrounding neighborhoods before eventually expanding into the whole city. A detailed map of the current regions being served is available in the Circuit app. For more information visit: gotrenton.org

We will be doing a presentation about plans for development around our train and light rail stations and will be requesting feedback about community preferences for key sites in these areas. Some Trenton Water Works ratepayers experienced minor discoloration in the gravity-fed areas of the City over the weekend, including downtown Trenton, Mill Hill, and areas along the Delaware River.

There are not any resulting public health issues, and the discoloration was determined to be a slight imbalances in water treatment levels.

The New Jersey Department of Environmental Protection has been notified and TWW personnel will be coordinating corrective actions with the State.

TWW is taking corrective measures including the flushing of hydrants in the affected areas. We continue to monitor the areas in conjuction with State partners.

Last night, the NJ Department of Community Affairs (DCA) certified the 2022 municipal budget after Council's failed vote.

DCA's letter to the Mercer County Board of Taxation established the budget due to Council's inaction, avoiding multimillion-dollar defaults.

Tonight, City Council voted down the 2022 municipal budget on a multimillion-dollar deadline.

Mayor Gusciora then issued an executive order to shield taxpayers and called an emergency meeting on Friday at 10 a.m. so that Council might reconsider.
