Releasing people from prison is about humanity — during the pandemic and after it
Early releases from prison in NJ — projected at over 8,000 from March 2020 to March 2022 — saved lives and showed the urgent need for decarceration. Recidivism rates were also lower.
Ex-inmates can get up to $8K for each year they didn’t get special ed classes in N.J. prisons, court says
The settlement is expected to affect hundreds of young inmates and change how prisons run classes, attorneys say.
NJAC joins a network of partners to implement NJ-LEAD.
NJ– LEAD, which stands for New Jersey - Locally, Empowered, Accountable, and Determined.
NJ-LEAD is a reentry initiative recently funded through the NJ Department of Corrections. The LEAD Initiative supports local organizations to develop and implement strategic evidence informed programs for the provision of wraparound reentry services that assist in the transition from corrections to the community.
NJAC will hire one new employee, a Reentry Resource Specialist, that will be based out of the Middlesex County Resource Center and work closely with NJDOC to help inmates, primarily from East Jersey State Prison, with successful reentry. NJAC joins approximately six other organizations around the state that will partner with state correctional institutions to improve the way New Jersey does reentry! #reentry #reentrymatters #middlesexcounty

Support Positive Changes in 2022!
As we close out 2021, we look back on a year that has been difficult for many but also a time of Positive Change.
With the rising need for employees throughout the labor market, those individuals with gaps in employment, a need for flexibility around child care, and other barriers have been given a new chance and secured jobs needed to increase stability.
While a job is critical, it is not a magical solution. Years of victimization at the hands of an abuser, a life spent in and out of institutions or on the streets, and chronic health conditions can make holding down a job and earning enough income to pay for housing and other basic necessities very challenging.
We provide holistic and trauma-informed services that help address the practical, cognitive and emotional needs of individuals seeking a better future.

Men and women reentering society following incarceration find services in Mercer, Middlesex, Essex, and Passaic Counties. In Middlesex and Monmouth Counties homeless and people living in poverty, many with underlying health conditions, find support.
