🥬 NCDHHS is investigating an increase in cyclosporiasis cases across North Carolina.

From May 1 to July 14, 307 cases and 13 hospitalizations have been reported statewide. Investigations are ongoing, and no single food source has been identified in North Carolina.

Cyclosporiasis is an intestinal illness caused by a microscopic parasite that can contaminate food or water. Symptoms often begin about a week after exposure and may include watery diarrhea, stomach cramps, nausea, bloating, fatigue and loss of appetite.

You can help protect yourself by:
✔️ Washing your hands before and after preparing food.
✔️ Rinsing all fresh fruits and vegetables under clean running water.
✔️ Using a clean brush to scrub firm produce like melons and cucumbers.
✔️ Drying produce with a clean towel before eating or preparing it.

If you have severe or persistent diarrhea, contact your health care provider.
