The Official page of the Mercer County Board of County Commissioners
A County Commissioner is an elected, part-time legislator at the county level of government. The seven members of the Mercer County Board of County Commissioners are elected at-large to three-year staggered terms. State statutes determine the number of County Commissioners based on county classification and population. The Board has a Chair and Vice-Chair; these positions are rotated amongst board
members each year. Duties of a County Commissioner
The Board of County Commissioners acts as a formulator of policy and provides a check on the powers of the County Executive. The Board also approves all county contracts and gives advice and consent to the County Executive’s appointments of department heads, and appointments to boards and commissions. After receiving the proposed county budget from the County Executive in January of each year, it is the duty of the Freeholder Board to thoroughly review, make appropriate changes, and then vote on the budget. The Board of County Commissioners' powers include:
§ adopting the County's Administrative Code
§ passing ordinances and resolutions
§ reviewing, modifying, and adopting all operating and capital budgets
§ evaluating and studying the County's Annual Budget before final approval
§ making contracts with municipalities in the county
The Mercer County Commissioners oversee the provision of funds for all county departments to include:
§ Mercer County Geriatric Center
§ Mercer County Community College
§ Vocational-Technical School
§ Mercer County Board of Social Services
§ Mercer County's correctional facilities, County Sheriff and the County Court House
§ Mercer County Improvement Authority
§ Mercer County Park Commission
§ Mercer County Library Systems
Operating as usual

MERCER COUNTY SHERIFF JACK KEMLER:
FANS DON’T LET FANS DRIVE DRUNK ON SUPER BOWL SUNDAY
Mercer County Sheriff Jack Kemler reminds area football fans that Fans Don't Let Fans Drive Drunk this coming Super Bowl Sunday. If you are heading out this Sunday to a Super Bowl party and plan to drink alcohol, make sure you plan for a designated driver or ride service to get you home safely at the night's end.
Make a game plan, whether you are attending a party or going to a bar or restaurant. If you are hosting a party, ask your guests about their designated drivers in advance. And, if a buzzed or overindulged partygoer tries to drive, be a team player, take their keys, and help them get home safely.
Super Bowl Sunday is one of the best days of the year; make it safe and enjoyable for everyone.
