With fewer stores accepting plastic bags and film (product wraps, case overwraps, bread bags, for example) for recycling, municipalities, civic organizations, religious institutions and schools are stepping up and participating in the NexTrex Recycling Challenge Program, which rewards participating groups that collect 1,000 pounds of soft plastic film and packaging within a 12-month period with a Trex recycled plastic lumber furniture bench. Founded in 1996, Trex produces recycled plastic lumber products - benches, decking, picnic tables - from recycled plastic bags and film.

The U.S. Environmental Protection Agency updated and strengthened its Safer Choice and Design for the Environment (DfE) Standard, which identifies the requirements that products and their ingredients must meet to earn EPA's Safer Choice label or DfE logo. These updates further support the use of safer chemicals in the marketplace. The Safer Choice program makes it easier for consumers and purchasers for facilities like schools and office buildings to find cleaners, detergents and other products made with safer chemical ingredients. Similarly, the DfE program helps people find disinfectants that meet high standards for public health and the environment.

This step-by-step guide walks you through how to figure out where the transportation gaps are, who is underserved by the systems in place, what types of transportation residents want, and which improvements and services could best fill these needs. A few of our Diesel Modernization Program (DMP) members went out into the cold and dreary weather last week to audit some electrification projects. The DMP team focuses on diesel to cleaner diesel projects, as well as diesel to electrification projects. These two projects were with Bogota Board of Education for an Electric School Bus and Paterson Fire Department for an all electric truck!
