Is anyone surprised? Visitation at Delaney Hall was paused only after Governor Mikie Sherrill decided to turn up on Memorial Day and kick off a week of political theater, protests and chaos outside the facility.

That's taking credit for fixing a problem you helped create. Create chaos. Claim victory. Repeat.

Governor Mikie Sherrill says ICE agents are "really inciting" tensions at Delaney Hall and should "stay out of there." But footage from the scene shows protesters charging toward ICE agents, blocking police vehicles with emergency lights activated, and carrying bricks, sticks and logs as agents retreat.

The governor's comments come as ongoing demonstrations outside the Newark detention facility continue. Supporters describe the protests as peaceful but everyone else just see escalating confrontations with law enforcement.

Governor Mikie Sherrill acknowledged this afternoon that five of the six people arrested last night at Delaney Hall came from out of state. She said, "You should not be here." We agree.

But that raises an obvious question: Why continue turning Delaney Hall into a political battleground with ICE if it keeps attracting out-of-state activists and escalating tensions?

Most New Jerseyans want public safety, peaceful communities, and the rule of law. They don't want political theater.

What exactly is the goal of these protests?

Assembly Republican Leader John DiMaio joined Newsmax this morning and asked the question nobody seems willing to answer.

Do protesters want ICE to stop enforcing immigration law? Do they want detainees released? Do they want the facility shut down entirely?

The narrative keeps changing. First it was a hunger strike. Then it was conditions inside the facility. Then members of Congress toured the building and reported conditions were fine. Now activists say they won't stop until Delaney Hall is closed.

Meanwhile, New Jersey politicians keep showing up for photo opportunities while ignoring serious problems that have affected actual New Jersey residents for years.

"There used to be conservative versus liberal. Then it was left versus right. Now it's normal versus crazy."

New York City residents got access to a World Cup ticket lottery. New Jersey residents? Nothing.

That’s despite New Jersey hosting EIGHT World Cup matches — including the final — and New Jersey taxpayers helping support the event infrastructure.

Assemblyman Mike Inganamort joined PIX11 News to call out the imbalance and demand answers from the World Cup host committee. “It’s played in New Jersey and yet the tickets are exclusive to New York City residents.”

Republican lawmakers are now pushing for hearings and calling on the host committee to give New Jersey families the same opportunity before the tournament begins.

Assemblyman Paul Kanitra went to Delaney Hall Wednesday as national media descended on Newark over protests surrounding the immigration detention facility. Speaking with Fox News Digital, Kanitra blasted Democrats for what he called years of “radical” illegal immigration policies that created the chaos now unfolding.

Kanitra accused Governor Mikie Sherrill and Democrats of trying to shift attention away from their own policies with what he called a “performative stunt,” while pushing back on claims about conditions inside the facility.

“They’re acting like this place should be the Ritz Carlton,” Kanitra said. “These are people who broke the law or violated the terms of being here.”
