Chah-pekw O' Ket'-toh "Stone Lagoon" Visitor Center

The Cultural Resources Department oversees the Chah-pekw O’ Ket’- toh “Stone Lagoon” visitor center. The first tribally operated visitor center in state parks.

We are seeking a coordinator that will help support programs and events at the center. For more information go to the Yurok Tribes official website under job opportunities. Search for Interpretation Center Coordinator to learn more.

We had an awesome time co-hosting Save California Salmon's Annual Salmon Protectors Canoe Camp at Stone Lagoon! Thank you to everyone who joined us!

Participants got to learn about the unique Joint Powers Agreement between California State Parks and the Yurok Tribe while experiencing the beauty of Stone Lagoon by kayak and in traditional redwood canoes.

A special thank you to Dave Severns for sharing about the traditional canoe-building process, and to Brittany Vigil-Burbank from the Yurok Language Department for teaching us Yurok language through a fun song and game.

Throughout the day, participants also enjoyed beading, cleaning sticks, creating clay landscapes, learning about cultural fire, and taking part in a fire-building competition. We are grateful to everyone who helped make this event such a meaningful experience!
