At about 1414 on 13 May 2026, Fishers Peak Fire Dept received a call for smoke & flames visible in the area of Fisher's Peak Parkway and Gallinas Parkway on the Santa Fe Trail Ranches. Upon arrival of responding units, a fallen tree was observed to be smoking with minimal flames showing. San Isabel Electric Association and BNSF personnel were requested to assist with securing the scene. Fire Department personnel were on scene providing overall command and fire suppression standby services. After power was shut off by SIEA, all fire was extinguished. SIEA personnel completed distribution line mitigation in the affected area. Crews remain on scene. Please avoid the area as operations continue.

Thank you.

update 7am 5/4/26

This will be the final update for the Poitrey Canyon Fire in Las Animas County. Fire management officials reported reaching 100% containment late yesterday. The DFPC Multi-Mission Aircraft (MMA) successfully guided firefighters to heat sources in close proximity to control lines, and crews made great progress patrolling and mopping up hot spots along the perimeter. DFPC will be working with Las Animas County and the local fire protection district to determine the timing of the transfer of command today. Most resources are being released; however, an engine will remain for at least another day to patrol and monitor before the arrival of a spring storm expected to bring widespread precipitation.

update 8am 5/3/26

Containment has increased to 75%. Crews made great progress yesterday patrolling and mopping up hot spots. Today, firefighters will continue to strengthen and extend containment lines along the west side of the fire to tie in to the containment line to the north. There are currently 25 personnel working on the fire. The fire will be turned over to local control on Monday morning.

update 8am 5/2/26

There is no reported change in acreage or percent containment today, but more rain fell over the fire yesterday, limiting fire activity. Fire behavior was minimal and mostly smoldering, with pockets of creeping in drier fuels. Roads in the area were largely impassable, especially early in the day, hampering firefighters’ access to the fireline. Today, the DFPC Multi-Mission Aircraft (MMA) will be requested to gather intelligence on areas with residual heat, and crews will focus on building depth along containment lines. The number of personnel working on the fire has been reduced to 40, and resources continue to be released. Fire managers are developing a plan to return the fire to local control.
