Final date is 8/30/26
Caddo-Midway Fire & Rescue District is offering FREE smoke detectors to families who do not currently have working smoke alarms in their home. Even better, our volunteer firefighters will install them for you at no cost.
Working smoke detectors save lives. They provide early warning during a fire and give families precious time to get out safely.
If your household does not have smoke detectors or you are unsure if yours are working, we encourage you to take advantage of this free service.

Equipment maintenance is so important! Last month, our firefighters took time to carefully check the SCBA gear and other equipment, making sure everything stays ready to go at a moment’s notice. πŸš’

Training nights matter too! Our department joined forces with Chalybeate Fire & Rescue to practice creating pre-fire plans. These are detailed documents and maps for specific buildings or sites that give us critical info about the layout, potential hazards, and safety systemsβ€”before an emergency ever happens.πŸ—Ί

We respond to quite a few motor vehicle incidents each month. Our firefighters always do their best to provide top-notch medical care and make sure the vehicles are properly secured.πŸš—

This past month we held our very first raffle, and we hope to keep the tradition going with more in the future. A big thank-you to everyone who participated!🎫

The Lawrence County Fire Association gathered for its quarterly meeting at Mt. Hope. Firefighters from across the county got valuable updates from elected officials and others. Special thanks to Mt. Hope Baptist Church for hosting us and treating everyone to a delicious meal!πŸ‘₯

Finally, our Fire Explorer Program stayed busy right through the end of July. The Explorers completed several community projects, including painting and cleaning fire hydrants, helping with truck and station maintenance, and tackling other helpful tasks. Huge thanks to every Fire Explorer for all your hard workβ€”you make a real difference! Ask your teen if they'd like to be an Explorer next Summer.πŸ‘¨πŸ»β€πŸš’

Hey Neighbors! πŸš’

Every 5️⃣ years, our local fire department gets a thorough evaluation of its fire response capabilities (the Water Department and 911 Center are evaluated right alongside it).

This intense process, run by the Insurance Services Office or ISO, looks at almost everything: equipment, training, staffing, administration, policies, and water supply. A low score in just one area can cause insurance rates in a community to double or even triple!

Our Caddo-Midway Fire and Rescue District was last evaluated in 2021 and earned a Class 4 rating β€” putting us in the top 40% of fire departments across the nation. πŸ‘

ISO uses a 1–10 scale (Class 1 is the best protection; Class 10 means minimum standards aren’t met). The scoring breaks down like this:
β€’ Fire Department – 50% (staffing, equipment, training, response times)
β€’ Water Supply – 40% (hydrants, flow, maintenance)
β€’ Emergency Communications – 10% (911 dispatch quality)

A strong rating means lower fire insurance premiums for homes and businesses β€” often saving the community thousands of dollars over time. Most people don’t notice the savings because they happen gradually, while other insurance cost increases can mask them. But if the rating slips, those higher premiums show up fast.

Getting ready for the ISO β€œaudit” takes countless hours of detailed work. Chief Clark is deep in the thick of gathering reports and records right now to keep us strong.

This is one more great example of how your annual $60 contribution ($5 a month) is put to work. It’s a small investment that helps protect both our community’s safety and your wallet. πŸ’°

Would you help fill the stocking of your First Responder this year?🎁
They leave their families day and night to answer nearly 800 calls a year. From house fires to grass fires, from wrecks to medical calls...they're always there!

Every dollar donated will go directly toward purchasing gifts for our Volunteers. This year they need Shirts & Hats that identify them on emergency scenes where Fire Turnout Gear is not needed (wrecks, medical calls, etc.)

Donations are tax deductible πŸ˜‰
