Alabama has a new tool to help keep residents informed when severe weather and other emergencies happen.

ALalert, Alabama’s new statewide emergency notification system, was officially activated on August 25 by Governor Kay Ivey. The system is designed to provide faster warnings about flooding and other disasters, helping give families more time to prepare and take action.

📲 HOW TO SIGN UP

Alabama residents can opt in through the Alabama Emergency Management Agency (EMA):

📱 Or simply text ALalert to 77295 to receive emergency alerts and notifications.

Once signed up, emergency information can reach you through multiple channels, including:

Why does this matter?

The system was developed following the tragic July 2025 flooding in Texas that claimed the lives of 27 people, including 25 children at Camp Mystic. Among those lost was 8-year-old Sarah Marsh of Alabama.

In response to that tragedy, Governor Ivey signed the Sarah Marsh Heaven’s 27 Camp Safety Act into law on April 8, 2026, strengthening emergency preparedness requirements for Alabama camps.

Outage Alert ⚠️🚨

8:15 pm
There are still three areas where crews are working to restore power in Lawrence County affecting 150 Members. The outage along CR 249 is the largest of these. Crews will continue to work into the night to restore power to everyone.

5:15 P.M.: We currently have 334 meters without power. Crews are spread across both counties working to restore service. Heads up — if you’re in the area of County Road 460 or County Road 249, expect longer restoration times. Crews are working to clear trees and replace numerous broken poles. We appreciate your patience as crews continue working to safely restore power.

4:30 P.M.: We are down to 416 meters without power across Morgan and Lawrence Counties. Be advised, a section of County Road 460 between County Road 225 and County Road 229 is temporarily closed while our crews work to restore power. We appreciate Lawrence County EMA for putting out their new message boards to provide advance warning to drivers and Fire & Rescue for assisting. We know road closures can be an inconvenience, but keeping traffic away from the work area gives our crews the space they need to make repairs safely and efficiently.

4:00 P.M.: We still have 780 members without power across Lawrence and Morgan Counties. Crews are working to get everyone back on asap. Please watch for our power crews and first responders while they are out getting the power back on.

3:00 P.M.: Please avoid County Road 460 for the time being. Crews are working to replace 2 broken poles.

Update 2:30 P.M.: We currently have 852 meters without power across Lawrence County due to storm damage. Trees are down, and we’ve received reports of downed power lines. Our crews are working to restore service as safely and quickly as possible. As a reminder, never approach downed lines.

We are aware of an outage in Lawrence County affecting approximately 332 meters. Crews have been dispatched and will work to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. We will post updates as necessary.

A storm is brewing! ⛈️

The US National Weather Service Huntsville Alabama is predicting a round of storms to move into our service area this afternoon, with the greatest impacts expected between 12:00 P.M. and 6:00 P.M.

Our crews are prepared and ready to respond should outages occur. Please stay weather aware, and remember to always stay away from downed power lines. If outages occur, we’ll provide updates as crews work to safely restore service.

⚠️ Outage: Lawrence County ⚠️

9:05 A.M.: A bird came into contact with a switch, causing the equipment to malfunction. Crews made the necessary repairs, and service has been restored. Thank you for your patience!

8:45 A.M.: Crews are working to locate the cause of the outage and determine what repairs are needed. Additional crews are en route to assist. We’ll provide another update as more information becomes available.

We are aware of an outage in the Hillsboro area affecting approximately 779 meters. Crews have been dispatched and are working to restore service as quickly and safely as possible. We will provide updates as needed.

⛈️ Storm Restoration Update

Last night’s severe weather caused 3,755 outages across 49 locations in our service area. Approximately half were caused by wind and half by lightning. Crews also responded to nine transformer outages and three broken poles.

A total of 22 JWEMC linemen worked to restore power following the storm.

As of 12 p.m. today, all outages from the storms last night have been restored.

Thank you to our members for your patience and understanding—and thank you to all 22 JWEMC linemen who have worked to safely restore power.

10:00 A.M.: We are down to 19 meters without power across our service area. Crews are working to restore service to those affected. We appreciate your patience and understanding!

8:25 A.M.: Gandys Cove Road area - crews are working to replace a broken pole. As repairs are made, outage numbers may temporarily increase on the outage map. This is a normal part of the restoration process and is sometimes necessary for our crews to safely make repairs and restore power. Our guys are working as safely and diligently as possible to get the lights back on.

8:00 A.M.: We have crews working on each of the remaining outages at this time. As restoration efforts continue, please remember to always stay away from downed power lines and treat every line as energized.

7:00 A.M.: At this time there are still around 70 members without power across the system. Crews have been working through the night to get power back on and will continue until everyone is back up. We have added a couple of pictures from last nights damage.

12:00 A.M.: We had around 2,500 out earlier but our crews have just turned on a large part of Trinity. We still have 1,500 members without power and crews are out working on them.

11:00 P.M.: We now have more than 1,100 members out with the majority of them being in Trinity.

10:00 P.M.: We have 417 members without power in the Trinity/Decatur area around the Beltline and Hwy 20. Crews are heading in to get the power back on now.
