Mrs. Terry will be moving to 7th Grade ELA, where she is excited to continue working with many of the same students she taught as 6th graders. Her dedication to building meaningful relationships and fostering a love of learning has already made a positive impact on our students, and we know she will continue to inspire them in this new role.

✨ Please join us in celebrating Coach Cam Stephens as he begins an exciting new role at WMMS as our Physical Education teacher! 🏀🖤

Coach Stephens will be transitioning to the PE classroom, where he will have the opportunity to inspire students to develop healthy habits, build confidence, and reach their full physical potential. His enthusiasm for working with students and passion for athletics make him a fantastic fit for this position.

In addition to teaching Physical Education, Coach Stephens looks forward to continuing to invest in our student-athletes and working alongside his basketball players. His dedication to encouraging teamwork, perseverance, and personal growth will undoubtedly have a positive impact both in the gym and throughout our school community.

✨ Please join us in welcoming Ms. Emilia Oyervidez to the WMMS family as our new 6th Grade English Language Arts teacher! 📓

Ms. Oyervidez is no stranger to Rebel Nation. Over the past five years, she has faithfully served West Morgan Middle School as a paraprofessional, ISS teacher, and attendance clerk. Her dedication to our students and commitment to our school community have already made a lasting impact, and we are thrilled to see her step into this new role.

A recent graduate of Athens State University, Ms. Oyervidez is excited to continue her journey at WMMS—this time as an educator in the classroom. Her passion for student success, strong relationships with our school community, and love for learning make her a wonderful addition to our teaching staff.

We know Ms. Oyervidez will inspire, encourage, and empower her students as they grow both academically and personally. We can’t wait to see all the incredible things she will accomplish in this new chapter.

Summer is a time to relax and recharge, but it’s also important to 𝐊𝐄𝐄𝐏 𝐘𝐎𝐔𝐍𝐆 𝐌𝐈𝐍𝐃𝐒 𝐀𝐂𝐓𝐈𝐕𝐄! Research shows that students can lose some of the academic progress they made during the school year if they don’t continue practicing key skills over the summer.💡

Here are a few simple ways middle school parents can help prevent the 𝐒𝐔𝐌𝐌𝐄𝐑 𝐒𝐋𝐈𝐃𝐄:

📖 Encourage 20–30 minutes of reading each day. Let your child choose books, magazines, or articles that match their interests.

⏰ Practice math in everyday life. Cooking, budgeting for a shopping trip, planning vacations, and playing strategy games all build important math skills.

📱Limit passive screen time and encourage educational apps, documentaries, podcasts, and creative projects.

✏️ Keep writing skills sharp by having your child journal, write letters or emails, create stories, or even help plan family activities.

📚 Visit your local library and participate in summer reading programs and activities.

🗞️ Explore new experiences together—museums, nature walks, historical sites, and community events all provide valuable learning opportunities.

Most importantly, 𝐦𝐚𝐤𝐞 𝐥𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐞𝐧𝐣𝐨𝐲𝐚𝐛𝐥𝐞 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐥𝐨𝐰-𝐩𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐮𝐫𝐞. Small, consistent opportunities to read, think, create, and explore can make a big difference when students head back to school in the fall! 🤓

Glad we can help in a small way! Our new HOUSE SYSTEM strives to fulfill needs in our school but also helps members outside our walls.

We want to be the hands and feet of our community. If you have a need or if you have a business willing to help fund these projects, please reach out to the school and help us better serve Morgan County!

We are incredibly grateful to West Morgan Middle School for their thoughtful and generous donation to the Decatur Morgan Hospital Foundation! 💙

Students and staff put together amazing care packages for patients in need, filled with stuffed animals, cozy blankets, activity books, and so many other comforting items. These gifts will bring encouragement and support to patients during their time with us, and we cannot thank them enough for their kindness and compassion.
