As we wrap up Independence Day weekend, let’s keep celebrating our nation’s 250th anniversary by highlighting one of our honored veterans. After all, over a year before the Declaration of Independence, one Trivoli Township resident joined the fight for independence.
James Harkness enlisted in Massachusetts on July 1, 1775 and called our township home after the Revolutionary War. He is buried beside much of his family in Harkness Grove Cemetery on N Stone School Road.
His grave and many other have been cleaned thanks to charitable donations to the Trivoli Township Cemetery District and wonderful volunteers.
