Happy Pioneer Day to all of our friends and neighbors! I hope everyone has a fun, safe, and enjoyable holiday with family and friends.

I also wanted to let everyone know that Bryce Canyon City and Tropic will not be having a Pioneer Day fireworks show at the Bryce Canyon City Fire Station this year.

Back during the week of the 4th of July, we made the decision to combine both the Independence Day and Pioneer Day fireworks shows into one larger show on the 4th. The decision was based on the concern that drought conditions could become worse later in July or that the weather might not cooperate for a safe fireworks display.

Another factor is that leftover commercial fireworks cannot simply be stored until next year. They must be stored in a secure ATF-compliant Type 4 explosive magazine and handled in accordance with federal regulations and accepted safety practices.

We truly appreciate the tremendous support our communities give us each year. It means a lot to see so many families come out and enjoy the fireworks with us. Thank you for your understanding, and we look forward to celebrating with everyone again next year.

Have an enjoyable and safe Pioneer Day!

A huge THANK YOU to Anheuser-Busch, the National Volunteer Fire Council (NVFC), and General Distributing Company in Cedar City for supporting our firefighters!

Each year, Anheuser-Busch pauses beer production to can emergency drinking water for first responders. Through its partnership with the National Volunteer Fire Council, volunteer fire departments across the country receive this much-needed resource to help keep firefighters hydrated during wildland fires, extended incidents, and extreme heat.

We are incredibly grateful that the Tropic Volunteer Fire Department and Bryce Canyon City Fire Department were selected to receive a pallet of emergency drinking water through this program.

Our region is currently experiencing one of the most severe droughts in Utah's recorded history, and with wildfire activity already increasing, this donation couldn't have come at a better time. Having a reliable supply of drinking water helps protect the health and safety of our firefighters while they protect the communities we serve.

A special thank you to General Distributing Company in Cedar City for delivering the water directly to our station. Your support and partnership are greatly appreciated.

On behalf of our firefighters and the citizens of Tropic, Bryce Canyon City, and the surrounding communities, thank you to Anheuser-Busch and the National Volunteer Fire Council for your generosity and continued commitment to the volunteer fire service.

I get asked a lot about the closest place to dispose of lithium-ion batteries. Lithium-ion batteries are not allowed in the household garbage or the county landfill. Here is a link for call2recycle. Type in your zip code, and a list with a map will appear below your zip code.
