🔥I had a conversation with a Smith County fire official earlier this afternoon. He’s seeing a LOT of dead trees around the county, many of which are pines. If you’ve got trees on your property and it’s practical, give ‘em a drink.
• We talked about the fire situation, and believe me when I tell you they’re being vigilant.
• In spite of any potential rain that we may get from Edouard, Burn Bans are in effect for the vast majority of our East Texas counties, including Smith and all of its bordering counties. Furthermore, any decision to cancel Burn Bans, however unlikely that is for much of the area, would come down after the rains have passed. All that to say, please be mindful of the delicate situation we have around the area.

As you can imagine, our crews have gone through a lot of water during the last several days and we could use some additional help. We’re starting our water donation campaign as we continue to respond to calls during these extreme temperatures.

If you feel led to give, please feel free to drop off bottled water at any Smith County Emergency Services District 2 fire station. If you would like to have your donation distributed throughout the county, please feel free to drop off at the following locations:
