New Yorkers deserve an on-time budget, but more importantly, they deserve one that is responsible, thoughtful, and focused on improving affordability and public safety.
I supported key investments in education, including record school aid, stronger math instruction, and programs that help vulnerable students succeed. I also backed funding for infrastructure, public safety, veterans, libraries, clean water projects, and local community programs.
In addition, I supported reforms aimed at lowering costs for consumers and making climate policies more practical and realistic.
However, I opposed the sanctuary state provisions included in the budget because I believe they move New York in the wrong direction on public safety.
I believe budgets should be evaluated issue by issue, not through blind partisanship. While this budget included meaningful improvements, there is MUCH more work needed to address our rapid outmigration as NYS continues to lose residents and particularly business owners to more business friendly states.
