I'm thrilled to announce significant increases in School Foundation Aid for AD 107 in this year's state budget. Funding our schools particularly in rural communities like where I reside in Averill Park has been one of my top priorities as your Assemblyman. State government too often ignores our rural school districts but I will always be a voice for our students and parents. Education opened a lot of doors for me and I know it will for today's students also.

Incredible turnout yesterday to celebrate Lizzy Cable and Stella Naumovitz becoming the first Female Eagle Scouts from Troop 1058 in Bethlehem! Lizzy and Stella have devoted many years of time and energy to earning this achievement and each completed a service project. I was thrilled to be on hand to honor them yesterday. It's inspiring to meet young people so dedicated to the betterment of their community.

Every now and then you meet someone special. Dick was a fantastic guy who will be mourned by many, including myself. He was there for so many people with a loving and empathetic smile. He was humble, compassionate and funny as hell.

Our seniors deserve support and service in recognition of all they have done for us. Rensselaer County has a strong system of senior services, including five senior centers operated by the county. One senior center, located in Grafton, celebrated 20 years since the opening of the center. Proud to have Jack Kaiser from my office presented a commendation for my office to recognize the big day.

Two of my favorite Vets. My colleague Joe Angelino makes me a better person and I was proud to bring this Marine to my buddy Bill’s Barbershop. Bill is my dear friend, who is also a Marine and is truly a pillar of our community!

New Yorkers deserve an on-time budget, but more importantly, they deserve one that is responsible, thoughtful, and focused on improving affordability and public safety.

I supported key investments in education, including record school aid, stronger math instruction, and programs that help vulnerable students succeed. I also backed funding for infrastructure, public safety, veterans, libraries, clean water projects, and local community programs.

In addition, I supported reforms aimed at lowering costs for consumers and making climate policies more practical and realistic.

However, I opposed the sanctuary state provisions included in the budget because I believe they move New York in the wrong direction on public safety.

I believe budgets should be evaluated issue by issue, not through blind partisanship. While this budget included meaningful improvements, there is MUCH more work needed to address our rapid outmigration as NYS continues to lose residents and particularly business owners to more business friendly states.

Yesterday our community came together for a Memorial for my late constituent, Robert Bornt. Robert Bornt was not only a constituent but a trusted community leader. His tragic death on the job last year has shaken our community. Robert was a respected DOT Supervisor, a fire chief in Hoosick Falls and a proud family man. Thank you to everyone who attended yesterday.

My Team had a great time meeting with the 4-H kids from Rensselaer County for their advocacy day at the Capital. These bright young women shared their passion for agriculture and asked fantastic questions about how government works. I’m excited to see what they do with their future! Thank you to Cornell Cooperative Extension from Rensco for organizing.
