Deputy Ryan Condo recently had the opportunity to visit the residents of The Eliot Assisted Living in Troy to discuss a topic that unfortunately affects people of all ages, but especially our senior citizens — scams.

From phone calls claiming to be law enforcement or government agencies, to computer and online scams designed to steal personal information and money, Deputy Condo shared tips on how residents can recognize red flags and protect themselves from becoming victims.

The residents asked great questions and shared some of their own experiences, making for an informative and engaging discussion. We appreciate the warm welcome from everyone at The Eliot and the opportunity to help keep our community informed and safe.

If your organization, senior group, school, or community event would like a member of the Rensselaer County Sheriff's Office to provide a presentation on scams, crime prevention, or one of our community programs, we'd be happy to help. Click the link below to submit your request:

Memorial Day means something different to everyone.

For some, it’s a long weekend. For others, it’s a folded flag, an empty chair, or a loved one who never made it home.

As you spend time with family and enjoy the freedoms, we often take for granted, remember those who gave everything and the families who continue to carry that loss every day.

From all of us at the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office, we honor and remember America’s fallen heroes.

This morning, members of the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office once again took part in the 2026 Special Olympics Torch Run alongside our law enforcement partners from East Greenbush Police Department, North Greenbush Police Department, Troy Police Department, and the Town of Schodack Police Department. The run began at the East Greenbush Police Department and concluded at Albany City Hall.

This is always an awesome event and a great opportunity to come together in support of our Special Olympic athletes and everything they represent. Thank you to everyone who participated and helped make this year’s torch run another tremendous success!
