There is a GoFundMe set up to support Katherine Paige, Northport's lieutenant firefighter as well as a Belmont firefighter. She was injured in the blast at Robbins Lumber, and her daughter has set this up.

Again, even sharing these links helps support the victims, as people have been asking how they can help the community.

Last weekend, Troy VFD and Unity Fire Department began a planned burn on a property in Troy. It was a great exercise in working together and how quickly firefighters need to adapt to changing wind conditions.

Today, we burned another section of this property together. Doing these types of trainings ensures we all know how to work together and use equipment we would utilize on scene, as we can be sure this summer will be busy with unplanned wildland fires.

If this looks like fun, join us the 1st and 3rd Wednesday of each month! We are always looking for new members!

Please pay attention the fire danger! Outdoor burning may be restricted based on the fire danger, even as we are moving out of winter into spring. Things are still very dry!

Each year in April and May, we enter a period of increased wildfire activity in Maine and have days of elevated fire danger. Dry grasses and leaf litter, higher temperatures, lower relative humidity, and winds that can easily reach the forest floor all combine to create the conditions for Maine's spring wildfire season. In April 2025, Maine experienced 193 wildfires, burning 177 acres. All of those fires were caused by human activities, and more than a third were related to debris and open burning.

You can do your part by checking the daily fire danger rating before burning (https://mainefireweather.org/), always getting a permit when burning debris, and being careful with all potential ignition sources (campfires, fireworks, welding, etc.). Free burn permits can be obtained through the state’s online burn permit system (https://apps1.web.maine.gov/burnpermit/public/index.html).

Maine Forest Rangers remind the public to keep all fires small and manageable. Never leave a fire unattended and be sure your fire is properly extinguished before leaving the area. Please contact your local authorities if you have any questions prior to having outdoor fires.

Tonight Troy VFD did some wildland fire training using prescribed burning.

The landowner asked for their field to be burned off, so we used the opportunity to train before wildland fire season begins. It's important to be ready!
