System Pressure Advisory Lifted - 8/30/2026

Montgomery County Public Utilities has lifted the System Pressure Advisory previously issued for customers in the area of McCallum Pond Road in Candor.

Based on laboratory analysis of water samples collected on 8/28/2026, water quality testing has confirmed that the water supply meets all applicable standards and is safe for human consumption. It is no longer necessary to boil water used for drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, washing dishes, or food preparation.

Normal water use may resume at this time.

Montgomery County Public Utilities appreciates your patience and cooperation while crews worked to restore service and verify water quality.

System Pressure Advisory - 8/28/2026

Due to a water line failure along McCallum Pond Road in Candor, Montgomery County Public Utilities is issuing a System Pressure Advisory for customers in the affected area between McCallum Road, McCallum Pond Road and Currie Road.

Periods of low or no water pressure increase the potential for back-siphonage and the introduction of bacteria into the water distribution system. Therefore, the North Carolina Division of Water Resources advises that when water service is restored, consumers should boil water used for human consumption (including drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, making ice, washing dishes, and food preparation) or use bottled water until this advisory has been lifted.

Vigorous boiling for one minute should kill any disease-causing organisms that may be present.

Montgomery County Public Utilities is monitoring the water system and will lift or revise this advisory as necessary. This advisory is being issued as a precautionary measure and will remain in effect until water service has been fully restored and water quality testing confirms that the water supply is safe for consumption.

Discoloration and air in the water lines are common following service interruptions and do not, by themselves, pose a health risk. Customers may flush their household plumbing by running a cold-water faucet until the water runs clear.

Water consumers are encouraged to conserve water whenever possible while crews work to restore normal system operations.

Customers in the area of McCallum Road, McCallum Pond Road and Currie Road are affected by this advisory.

UPDATE: WATER SERVICE RESTORED

The water line repair has been completed, and all service has been restored. The issue has been fully resolved, and customers along Highway 109 South in Mount Gilead to the Troy area may resume normal water use.

PUBLIC UTILITIES NOTICE 💧⚠️

A broadband fiber company has bored through a major Montgomery County water line, resulting in a water service disruption.

This will impact customers along Highway 109 South in Mount Gilead through the Troy area.

Our Public Utilities crews are actively working to repair the damaged water line and restore service as quickly as possible. We ask customers throughout the County to please conserve water as much as possible during this time.

We appreciate your patience as we work to address the issue and apologize for any inconvenience.
