Happy everyone! How is everyone celebrating?

While we do not have a trail workday today, our next big workday is next Saturday, June 10th, 2023 from 9:30am to 1-2pm.

This workday is going to be the beginning of our 2023 Neighborhood Improvement Grant workdays. We are going to finish the construction of the new overlook and trsil rerouting by the Burden Pond Dam.

Volunteers are desperately needed for this work. All tools and equipment will be provided.

Ever wonder what happens to garter Snakes in the winter. Like many cold blooded animals they hibernate in dens called hibernacula. Eastern Garter snakes group together in these dens for warmth. In Canada one den contained around 8,000 snakes.

In an effort to remove damaging invasive plants from our preserves, the land trust will be hosting several invasive removal work days targeting garlic mustard. Garlic Mustard is a huge threat to native plants and biodiversity and can threaten the beauty of our local preserves. However, lucky for us removal is easy and takes a simple pull on the stem.

If you are interested in joining us on any of these dates, all we ask is that you show up at any time throughout the day at the designated preserve and help us pull some garlic mustard.

Trash bags will be provided for the removal as well as some light refreshments and snacks. You won't need to bring anything, but if you would like to work with gloves bring a pair although they aren't a necessity for garlic mustard.

Its incredible to be building trail systems in our city, and come across vandalized newly posted trail signs... disheartening, really.
With everything happening in the world right now, it feels almost insurmountable right now, but our community resources are here to ease that. To give us refuge from the outside world. Seeing this chopped up sign in the middle of the preserve was hard to take.
