Miami County Hazmat & Special Operations Response Teams

Today, members of the Special Operations Team gathered in Troy to train on Rope Rescue scenarios. Team members trained on scenarios utilizing Aerial ladder trucks and patient packaging techniques.

Yesterday, we assisted Troy Fire Department mitigate an overturned semi tanker, resulting in a release of Gasoline from the tanker. The Hazmat Team responded with 12 members and contained spilling product, as well as completed a bonding & grounding operation to assist a local towing/recovery company drill and off load the remaining product from the tanker. Responding units were Hazmat 5, Hazmat 6, Hazmat 7, Hazmat 8, and Foam 5. We appreciate the assistance of multiple public safety and private organizations for their part in this operation!

Hazmat Team members met this week to train on Hazardous Materials idetification and response protocols. Trainings like these we put together chemical research, protective clothing selection, and surveying techniques utilized by the Hazmat Team when mitigating hazardous materials responses

Today the Special Operations Team trained on Grain Bin Rescues. The Team trained on Rope Systems, specific hazards and operations of Grain Bins, and many other key topics to safely perform a rescue. We'd like to thank the property owner for generously allowing us access to the facility, Christiansburg Fire Company ladies auxillary for providing lunch, Citizens First Fire Training, and many others for helping make today a success!

The Hazmat Team was requested to stand by during the recovery operation of an overturned semi tanker that contained a full load of commercial grade herbicide. Due to the damaged and compromised vessel, the Hazmat Team stood by while recovery crews worked to upright the truck. Luckily, no product was spilled and no spill containment measures from the Hazmat Team was needed.
