Montgomery County Schoolsโ€™ mission is to graduate College and Career Ready students by preparing them to succeed in a globally diverse society, providing rigorous educational experiences, and building positive relationships with all members of our community. This commitment is evident throughout our district that serves approximately 3,600 students on our 11 educational campuses. Our 11 campuses a

re home to six elementary schools, two middle schools, one central high school, one learning academy, and one early college. Our high school campus includes the Joseph Reese Blair Career and Technical Education Center, a collaborative training facility for Montgomery County Schools and Montgomery Community College students, which offers students training opportunities in career and technical education programs based upon the industry needs of local employers. Our graduation rate has steadily increased and is currently 91%. Of the population we serve, seventy-three percent of students receive free or reduced lunch. Montgomery County is located in the south-central part of North Carolina in the midst of the Uwharrie mountain range where the Uwharrie National Forest encompasses much of the 491 square miles of land. It has a total population of 27,271 with five municipalities (Troy, Candor, Star, Biscoe, and Mount Gilead) that provide basic essential services for its citizens. Rural, heavily forested, and very hilly, Montgomery County has been designated as a โ€œlow wealthโ€ county by the State.

Montgomery County Schools proudly celebrates Antwan Little for his outstanding achievement at the National SkillsUSA Competition! Antwan earned an impressive 6th place in the nation in Firefighting!

This accomplishment reflects the hard work, commitment, and determination Antwan has shown throughout his career and technical education journey. We are incredibly proud of the way he represented Montgomery County Schools on the national stage.

We are proud to recognize Carrie Robledo for representing Montgomery County Schools and being named a National Winner in the Educator Track of the Presidential AI Challenge in Washington, D.C.!

Her challenge with students related to using AI (teachable machine learning) for identifying insects; it complemented the 2nd Grade Core Knowledge Language Arts unit and grade level Science standards. After advancing through state and regional rounds this year, Carrie traveled to D.C. the week of June 8, 2026 where she showcased applications of AI in Kโ€“12 education, participated in presentations and judging sessions at the historic Mellon Auditorium, collaborated with educators from across the country, and met with industry leaders, including Microsoft, to discuss the future of AI in education. As part of the national finalists' experience, she also toured the White House.

Carrie teaches at Star Elementary and is our MCS Lead Teacher for the STEAM Collaborative as part of our Research Practice Partnership with NC State University and โ€œElementary AI Computer Science For Allโ€ National Science Foundation Grant.
