What an exciting week for Elwood, Doniphan County, and the entire region!

This week, we celebrated the ribbon cutting for the completed expansion of Elanco Animal Health’s manufacturing facility in Elwood, a major investment that strengthens Elanco’s presence in Kansas and positions the Elwood site for continued growth. The completed expansion adds 25,000 square feet and significantly increases the facility’s manufacturing capabilities, including expanded monoclonal antibody production, a new pilot plant, and a new quality control laboratory.

For Doniphan County Economic Development, this ribbon cutting was especially meaningful because it represents the culmination of a partnership that began well before construction started.

When Elanco announced its expansion in 2024, Doniphan County, the City of Elwood, KCADC, the Kansas Department of Commerce, and other regional and state partners came together to support the project and help make the investment possible. The original announcement represented a $130 million commitment and approximately 70 new jobs for Elwood.

This past Wednesday, we got to see that partnership come to fruition.

We are incredibly proud of the role Doniphan County Economic Development and our local leaders played alongside KCADC and the Kansas Department of Commerce in helping Elanco continue to invest in Elwood. And we are even more excited about what this investment means for the future.

Elanco has made it clear that the expanded facility will allow the company to scale its biologics capabilities and support the next generation of its animal health pipeline. The company is planning an additional $30 million investment through 2028, bringing the total investment associated with the expansion to $150 million.

That is the power of economic development.

It isn't simply about bringing a project to a community. It's about building relationships, creating an environment where businesses can succeed, and helping existing industries find opportunities to grow and invest for the long term.

Elanco's continued commitment to Elwood is a tremendous vote of confidence in our community and in Kansas. It brings high-quality jobs and significant capital investment to our region while strengthening Northeast Kansas' role in the animal health and life sciences industry.

Thank you to Elanco for continuing to choose Elwood, and to the City of Elwood Kansas, Doniphan County leaders, KCADC, Kansas Department of Commerce, and all of the partners who helped make this investment possible.

We are proud of what we've accomplished together and even more excited about what comes next.

Congratulations, Elanco! Here's to continued growth and opportunity in Elwood and across Doniphan County. 🎉
