The Flock camera system has received strong bipartisan support across the city and in many other communities that use it. We want to thank our District Attorney for showing common sense and standing with our mayor, her administration, and the Troy Police Department on this issue.
Only a relatively small but very vocal group of radical left, pro criminal, defund the police socialists oppose these tools. While they may be disruptive, they do not represent the majority of residents who prioritize safety. Public safety should always come first, and we should all want law enforcement to have the tools and resources they need to do their jobs as effectively as possible.
We urge and implore the entire City Council to make a stronger effort to better understand law enforcement, public safety, their needs and the realities they face every day. Taking part in ride alongs, engaging in open dialogue, and working more closely with officers could be a meaningful first step.
Right now, there appears to be a disconnect between the Council and the demands of public safety work. We hope they will take the time to listen, learn, and engage more directly so they can make informed decisions that truly reflect the needs of the community and the constituents they were elected to represent. Not continue to push their own radical agenda.
