With a new ambulance in service and a new station in Crockett Hall, the next step is clear.
For over 10 years, our first response vehicle, 5959, has helped RPI Ambulance answer the call. Now, it has reached the end of its service life. Replacing it will give our crews the reliability they need to respond quickly, move safely, and continue providing excellent service throughout the RPI community.
Help us stay ready to answer the call: visit the link in our bio to learn more and consider making a gift.

Instead of this month, we'd like to take the time to feature our officers for the upcoming semester.

Today, we're featuring Lily Schwedhelm and Joe Bowers, the President and Vice President of RPI Ambulance.

Together, Lily and Joe make up the Civil Side of RPI Ambulance, meaning they handle our administrative tasks including finances, public relations, and keeping our five-year plan up to date.

When they're not juggling spreadsheets, emails, or meetings, Lily and Joe make sure RPI Ambulance stays organized, supported, and consistently moving forward. They are both deeply committed to keeping our organization strong, welcoming, and ready to serve the RPI community, whether that means advocating for resources, improving our efficiency, or finding new ways to support our members.

We're incredibly lucky to have their leadership this semester, and we're excited for everything they have planned going forward! ๐Ÿš‘๐Ÿšจ๐Ÿ’™

Today we recognize alumni member David Wolmark โ€™19 for 10 years of service to RPIA ๐ŸŽ‰

David joined RPI Ambulance in August 2015 as a freshman and has been involved in volunteer emergency services ever since, currently serving as a firefighter/EMT with the Burtonsville Volunteer Fire Department in Maryland and as an EMT with the Port Washington Fire Department in New York. As an alumni member, David has returned to campus to help staff our commencement standby almost every year since he graduated, as well as continuing to serve as a resource for the agencyโ€™s medical officers.

Occupation: aerospace engineering manager

Previous roles in RPI Ambulance: captain, duty supervisor, EES, and training committee chair

Favorite thing about RPIA: โ€œMy favorite thing about my time with RPIA has been developing & practicing new clinical and leadership skills, then having the opportunity to pass down the things Iโ€™ve learned to the next generation of members. It has been extremely rewarding seeing the people I grew up with in the agency, as well as the people I trained, go on to become successful in fire/EMS and in their careers. It's really amazing how many people have a lifelong passion for fire/EMS ignited by RPI Ambulance.โ€

How has RPIA affected you post-graduation: โ€œAside from getting me hooked on volunteer fire/EMS, the practical leadership, time management, task management, and communication skills I learned while serving the agency as a student have paid dividends in both my career and in my life more broadly. I also met some of my closest friends through RPI Ambulance and built networks that will last a lifetime. Additionally, staying involved with RPIA after graduation also helped me stay in touch with the RPI community more broadly, and I've also been able to continue contributing to the Mechanical, Aerospace, and Nuclear Engineering (MANE) Department.โ€

Thank you, David, for your continued service with RPIA! Weโ€™re so proud to have experienced alumni like you help us continue our important mission.

๐Ÿšจ Winter Weather Safety Tips ๐Ÿšจ
Hypothermia can set in quickly. Watch for shivering, confusion, slurred speech, and extreme fatigue. Get inside as soon as possible and seek medical help if symptoms arise. The storm may look stunning, but enjoy the beautiful weather from a distance in the coming days.
Roads are icy, temperatures are dropping, and weather conditions can change fast.
โ„๏ธ Dress in layers, limit time outdoors, and stay dry during the bad winter weather! โ„๏ธ
