Hudson Valley Community College remembers pioneering feminist icon, author and political activist Gloria Steinem following her passing at age 92.
We were honored to welcome her to a sold-out crowd at the Maureen Stapleton Theatre in April 2019 for an evening on our campus. During the event, then-English Department Chairperson Maria Palmara interviewed Steinem on stage, guiding a conversation about equality, justice and her life's work, followed by a Q&A session with our students and community.
Gloria Steinem's lifelong dedication to championing civil rights, breaking down barriers and making everyone feel seen and heard leaves an enduring legacy that continues to inspire our campus community.

HVCC students are spending the final days of summer making a difference! 🥬
Before classes started, Honors College students teamed up with the Northeast Regional Food Bank in Latham to live out the program's core pillars of service and fellowship.
Volunteers spent the afternoon sorting fresh produce that had recently passed expiration. Rather than heading to a landfill, the surplus produce was routed to local farms to feed animals, teaching students about the importance of reducing food waste and sustainably supporting the community!
