Massachusetts Boating Safety Course: This is open to anyone who wants to take it!

A new Massachusetts boating safety law is going into effect, and this is a great time to get certified before the season gets busy.

Under the Hanson-Milone Boater Safety Act, Massachusetts will require motorboat and personal watercraft operators to have a valid Boater Safety Certificate. Operators born after January 1, 1989 must be certified by April 1, 2026, with enforcement penalties beginning September 1, 2026. Operators born on or before January 1, 1989 must be certified by April 1, 2028. The certificate must be carried while operating on Massachusetts waters.

The Truro Police Department is hosting a free Massachusetts Boating Safety Course, taught by the Massachusetts Environmental Police, for anyone looking to earn their Boater Safety Certificate.

Location:
Truro Police Department
344 Route 6, Truro

Schedule:
June 9: 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM
June 17: 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM

Today, the Truro Police Department pauses to honor and remember the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in service to our country.

Memorial Day is more than the unofficial start of summer. It is a day to reflect on the courage, dedication, and selflessness of those who gave everything so that we may live freely.

As we gather with family, enjoy our community, and welcome the season here in Truro, we ask everyone to take a moment to remember the true meaning of this day.

From all of us at the Truro Police Department, we honor the fallen, we remember their sacrifice, and we remain forever grateful.

Today, members of the Truro Police Department were proud to take part in the Law Enforcement Torch Run, joining departments from across Cape Cod as the Flame of Hope makes its way through our communities.

This event is more than just a run. It is a powerful show of support, unity, and commitment to the incredible athletes of Special Olympics Massachusetts.

A big thank you to the Truro Fire Department and the National Park Service for their support today, and to all of the organizers who worked hard behind the scenes to make this event happen. Events like this do not come together by accident, and we are grateful for everyone who helped keep the torch moving.

We are honored to run alongside our fellow Cape Cod departments and proud to be part of something that brings so many communities together for such an important cause.

Our hearts are heavy today as we join the Massachusetts State Police and communities across the Commonwealth in mourning the line of duty death of Trooper Kevin Trainor.

The Truro Police Department extends our deepest condolences to his family, friends, fellow Troopers, and all who had the honor of serving beside him.

Rest easy, Trooper Trainor. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

The Massachusetts State Police announce the line-of-duty death of Trooper Kevin Trainor, 30, who was senselessly killed this morning by a wrong-way driver.

At the conclusion of his public safety detail shortly before 2 a.m., Trooper Trainor began his commute home. Minutes later, 911 received a call reporting a wrong-way driver traveling South on Route 1 North in Lynnfield. Several dedicated Troopers converged on the area and located the vehicle traveling the wrong way at 2:03 a.m. One minute later, at 2:04 a.m., the vehicle collided with Trooper Trainor’s cruiser.

While nothing will ever repair the pain we feel today, we make a solemn promise to never forget Trooper Trainor and his service to the Commonwealth. Kevin served as a Corrections Officer in Essex County before joining the State Police as a member of the 88th Recruit Training Troop. In his decorated career, he mentored new Troopers as a Field Training Officer or “Trooper Coach,” earned a place on the prestigious Troop Community Action Team, set the standard for professionalism, and patrolled our roads with a singular focus: keeping the people of this Commonwealth safe.

Beyond his professional accomplishments, Trooper Trainor’s classmates have shared stories of his genuine care and concern for others. As one person put it, “he was the guy you wanted as your backup.”

Colonel Noble said in his remarks this afternoon, “Make no mistake: Trooper Trainor saved lives this morning. His courage – his commitment to serve the citizens of the Commonwealth and put his life on the line – prevented an even greater tragedy. He will be remembered as a hero.”

We deeply appreciate the outpouring of support from our Governor, the Secretary of Public Safety, and friends in Massachusetts and across the country. We will remember and honor this extraordinary man, son, fiancée, and friend who gave his life for others.

Happy International Firefighters’ Day to our friends at the Truro Fire Department and firefighters everywhere.

We stopped by the station across the hall with our favorite peace offering, glazed doughnuts, and somehow found the firefighters exactly where you’d expect… parked in the recliners.

All jokes aside, today we celebrate the brave men and women who answer the call, fight fires, and do the hard work that keeps our community safe. Thank you for all you do, and for only giving us a hard time a little.

We’re still taking sign ups for our Citizens Police Academy session, and we’d love to have you join us!

This upcoming class gives you the chance to learn about police de-escalation and step into real life style scenarios where you get to decide how you would respond. It’s a hands on, eye opening look at the challenges officers face and the techniques used to slow things down and keep situations safe.

Then we’ll switch gears and talk about something we hope no one ever has to face, an active shooter situation. We’ll cover citizen response, awareness, and what to do in a worst-case scenario.

If you’ve been thinking about attending, now is the time to sign up. Come learn, ask questions, and be part of an important conversation with your Truro Police Department.

To register, call 508-487-8730 or email [email protected].

At the Truro Police Department, we are lucky enough to have an administrative assistant who is truly a triple threat. Not only does Administrative Assistant M.Thomas keep the office running smoothly, but she also serves as a dispatcher and fi****ms clerk. Basically, if something needs to get done, answered, organized, filed, sorted, scheduled, or figured out, there is a very good chance she already handled it.

She is the calm in the chaos, the voice on the other end of the radio, the master of paperwork, and the keeper of a hundred moving parts all at once. Administrative assistant, dispatcher, and fi****ms clerk? That is not just multitasking, that is a full-blown talent show.

The truth is, she wears more hats than most people own, and somehow manages to do it all with professionalism, patience, and probably a little bit of magic. We are incredibly grateful for everything she does behind the scenes and beyond. The Truro Police Department simply would not run the same without her.

Thank you for being the glue, the behind-the-scenes hero, and an all-around rockstar for TPD.

Join us for the second part of our Truro Police Citizens Academy on Thursday, May 7, 2026, from 6 PM to 8 PM at the Training Room, 344 Route 6, Truro, MA.

This session will be split into two important parts. In the first half of the evening, we will talk about how police officers de-escalate calls for service and walk participants through real-life style scenarios that officers commonly encounter today. This will give attendees a better understanding of the challenges officers face and the communication skills used to help bring difficult situations to a safe resolution.

In the second half, we will shift gears and discuss citizen response to an active shooter situation. This portion of the training will cover the Run, Hide, Fight concept and provide practical information to help community members better prepare for an emergency.

To register, call 508-487-8730 or email [email protected].

We hope you will join us for another informative and engaging evening with the Truro Police Department.

This week, we proudly recognize National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week and the incredible dispatchers who are the calm in the chaos behind every call.

They are the first voice you hear in an emergency and the steady link between the public and first responders. Their professionalism, compassion, and ability to handle critical situations with precision make an immeasurable difference every single day.

The Truro Police Department extends our sincere appreciation to all public safety telecommunicators for the vital work they do day and night. Thank you for your dedication, your patience, and your unwavering commitment to keeping our community safe.

Please join us in thanking the dispatchers who serve not only Truro, but communities everywhere.
