A-State Debate Takes First Place at Arkansas Student Congress!

The A-State Debate Team swept the annual Arkansas Student Congress, earning first place overall and taking home 22 individual awards, three distinguished honors, two elected offices, and three bills passed into the Laws of Congress.

All three A-State bills placed 1st, 2nd, and 3rd after being recommended to the Arkansas General Assembly and the Department of Higher Education — covering topics like facial recognition protections, tuition caps, and four-day school weeks.

Major standout Lesleigh Sullivan earned multiple superior awards, served as Senate Clerk and Committee Chair, and was named Best Overall Delegate, Best Delegate, and winner of the Mary Melekian Richardson Award for highest-scoring Senate delegate.

From first-time competitors to seasoned seniors, the team excelled across caucus, committee, floor debate, and parliamentary procedure categories.

Debate team coach Abigail Mock praised the group for its commitment to impactful legislation and mentoring future students:

“They are working to build a reputation for A-State Debate that supports all students and leads with education.”

Congratulations to all our Red Wolves for representing A-State with excellence and bringing home a huge win! 🐺
