Drier air has begun to filter into the region from the west, and we should see much less thunderstorm activity today as a result. Best chance of thunderstorms will be along the White Mountains / Mogollon Rim today, and near the NM border. Dry weekend with seasonable temperatures!

It is shaping up to be a relatively more active day today (compared to yesterday), with the best chance of thunderstorms from Tucson to Nogales and eastward, along with over the White Mountains. Gusty outflow winds and blowing dust are the primary threats today, with isolated heavy rainfall a secondary threat. Models are trending toward a later start of this activity: generally favoring the late afternoon and evening hours.

There is still enough moisture across southeast Arizona to result in isolated to scattered thunderstorms this afternoon into evening to the south and east of Tucson. The main concern with these storms is gusty outflow winds.

Storm coverage will expand more to the north and west Wednesday and include Tucson. Drier air starts to build back in on Thursday with storms once again limited to near the Int'l border with dry conditions area-wide Friday through the weekend.

High temperatures will be near normal through the week with breezy afternoon winds.

After an active overnight and early morning, it will take some time for the atmosphere to recover but we're primed for more scattered shower and thunderstorms this afternoon into evening. A few of the thunderstorms could be strong with gusty winds and blowing dust along with locally heavy rain.

Monsoon 2026 is already off to a record start in Tucson!

As of 5:30 AM, the Tucson Airport recorded 0.39" of rain today. This breaks the previous June 15 daily record of 0.17" in 2018. More rain is possible early this morning and then again later today.

As a reminder, monsoon season is defined as June 15 through September 30.

Welcome to Monsoon 2026! It's starting off on an active note this morning as showers and thunderstorms move through the Tucson Metro through 6 AM. These storms could drop a quick 0.25" to 0.50" of rain and have considerable lightning.
