President's Message
Happy June!
Presentations
We are soliciting presentations or ideas for presentations as we plan out the schedule for this year. We encourage all members to consider presenting on a topic that they are familiar with or would like to discuss at one of our meetings. You can even talk about what you are currently keeping and experiences in the hobby with the help of some pictures or videos. These presentations are meant to be around 20 - 30 minutes long and we are happy to help you prepare a presentation. If you are interested, please reach out to any of our board members.
June Meeting
Our next meeting is scheduled for June 14th at 2pm at the Tucson City Council Ward 3 Office at 1510 E Grant Rd. We request everyone planning to attend to check-in at the door starting at 1:45 PM.
Dave Padgett will be presenting Saltwater Made Easy - here's a little about it in his own words:
"Salt is one of the spices of life and that is so true in aquarium-keeping. My talk will scare you but eventually hope to encourage you to try a saltwater tank. I will present to you how to get started including substrate, filtration, lighting, etc. I will also show you my saltwater aquariums. I have three and tell you of the problems I have had and their solutions. It should be fun."
DAS Show Schedule
Please note that the Board is considering revisions to the Club show schedule for 2026 that will spread our categories across additional months to allow for better time management during the meetings, provide more time for discussion, and space out submissions. Holly and John will discuss this in more detail at the June meeting and the final show schedule for 2026 will be announced in the July newsletter.
I’ll see you all soon,
Holly

Tip of the Month
Monsoon Season Prep
As we head into summer, and cross our fingers for rain, the potential for power outages carries risk for aquarium keepers. An outage lasting longer than a few hours could crash a tank, so consider adding a battery backup so you can run an air stone to keep the tank oxygenated. For longer outages, you may also take your filter media out of the filter and put it in circulating water to keep the beneficial bacteria alive.
