Nuestras Raíces celebrates and honors the culture, voice, and linguistic heritage of our Latinx and Spanish-speaking communities in Pima County.

The Pima County Public Library in collaboration with the Many Nations: Celebrating the Native Communities of Pima County are proud to present Golden Hour: A showcase of youth poets in the Southwest.

We are looking for young local poets ages 9 - 18 to submit their poetry for a chance to share their poem live at one of the three libraries.

Guidelines for poems:
☀ Should be short enough to be read in 3 minutes or less
☀ Can be in any language or mix of languages
☀ Can focus on any topic but has to be appropriate to be read in front of all ages

We had a great time giving out books and sharing library resources at Somos Puro Love on Saturday! ♥️ We gave out 190 books. It was wonderful seeing the community come out! / Nuestras Raíces presente en el evento Somos Puro Love el 9 de mayo. Regalamos 190 libros a la comunidad.

Nuestras Raíces presente at Día de la Niñez with Ward 1 Tucson Council Member Lane Santa Cruz and Tucson Ward 5 Council Member Selina Barajas and many other organizations at Mission Manor Park on Saturday! We gave away 280 books, library resources, and coloring sheets. ¡Feliz día de la niñez!

It was a lovely Día (Children's Day/Book Day) celebration at the Children's Peace Garden on Saturday! 🌸🌼☮ In collaboration with Valencia Library and Sunnyside Neighborhood Association, we had a bilingual storytime featuring "Book Fiesta" by Pat Mora and "Amor de Colores" by Melanie Romero and gave away 64 children's books to the community. Many Nations: Celebrating the Native Communities of Pima County was present and gave out resources. Sketching the Senses was also there with delicious food and watercolors!

¡Tuvimos una celebración muy bonita para el Día de la Niñez y el Día de los Libros en el Children's Peace garden! 🌸🌼☮ Fue una colaboración con la Biblioteca Valencia, Sunnyside Neighborhood Association, y Sketching the Senses.

This Saturday, the Nuestras Raíces team is partnering with Valencia Library, Sunnyside Neighborhood Association, and Sketching the Senses for a story time and fun activities at the Children's Peace Garden from 10 am - 11:30 am to celebrate Día de la Niñez/Día de los Libros (Children's Day/Book Day)! It's a day to celebrate children and literacy. Enjoy refreshments while learning how to make a mini-piñata, doing watercolor painting, participating in a scavenger hunt, and more. We will be giving out free children's books (while supplies last). The whole family is welcome. Will we see you there?

On March 28th, Nuestras Raíces and Biblio Lotus: Celebrating the Asian Community in Pima County had the honor of virtually interviewing food writer and recipe developer Kiera Wright-Ruiz about their book My (Half) Latinx Kitchen! 🎉Kiera also showed us how to make Mexican Hot Chocolate cookies 🍪and answered questions from the audience. Nuestras Raíces tabled at the last Love of Lectura hosted by Andrés Cano and District 5, featuring Lydia Otero! We gave away books, swag, and information about resources. It was a great conversation about local history. ¡Viva Tucson!

We had a great time at the Tucson Festival of Books on March 14th and 15th! A big thank you to the authors and moderators who made the phenomenal weekend possible. Your wisdom, humor, and creativity shone. Here are a few photos of our panels, plus a surprise visit from the 23rd Poet Laureate of the United States, Joy Harjo!

We were able to give out hundreds of free books for youth to the community, and ASU Bilingual Press gave out free books for adults. There was a craft courtesy of the Many Nations team as well.
