For the third year in a row, Jewish Family & Children’s Services has received a grant from the Seed the Dream Foundation in support of a Holocaust Survivor Day program. While the National Holocaust Survivor Day is today, June 4, our community celebration will be held on June 21 with a lavish brunch and live Klezmer music.
Throughout the year our Holocaust survivors are called upon to speak to diverse groups within our community. While it is not easy, they share their stories because they know the critical nature of their testimonies in changing attitudes and lives. In addition to speaking, they are present at community programs in commemoration of Yom HaShoah and International Holocaust Remembrance Day.
The special nature of Holocaust Survivor Day is that there is no “agenda”; it is truly a day just for them to celebrate their lives and what they have given and continue to give us. All Southern Arizona Holocaust survivors will come together, regardless of country of birth or language spoken, for a day of joy, honor and friendship. This celebration provides a much-needed respite from the news of the world, including increased antisemisitm, individual health struggles and the passing of fellow survivors.
Jewish Family & Children’s Services is honored to be able to provide this special day, just for them!
