Amistades is a community centered non profit committed to strengthening Southern Arizona’s community through responsive services, empowerment, and sustainable, meaningful change. We address immediate issues and develop long-term solutions that are data driven and community informed. Amistades was honored to join Janet Murguía, President and CEO of UnidosUS, Enrique Davis-Mazlum, Arizona State Director, Cynthia Burrola, Director of Affiliate Engagement, and fellow Arizona affiliates in Phoenix for meaningful conversations about the challenges and opportunities facing Latino communities.

Our longstanding partnership with UnidosUS has created opportunities for collaboration, investment, and advancing initiatives that strengthen families and communities across Southern Arizona.

We believe civic engagement extends beyond the ballot box, but the ballot box remains one of the most powerful ways our communities can make their voices heard. Access to accurate voting information, representation, and opportunities to participate in decisions that shape our future are essential to building stronger, more equitable communities.

We are grateful to UnidosUS for its continued leadership, investment, and commitment to elevating Latino voices. Together, we are strengthening the connections between community, civic participation, and lasting change.

🌟NEW GRANT ALERT🌟

We are excited to share that we have been awarded $240,000 in funding by SAMHSA under their STOP program for our Bisbee-Naco Youth Project. This is a youth alcohol prevention and leadership initiative that will expand the capacity of our Cochise County Coalition to prevent and reduce underage drinking in Bisbee and Naco, Arizona.

We look forward to working with the Cochise County Sheriff’s Office, Bisbee Unified School District, Naco Elementary School District, and the Boys & Girls Club of Bisbee over the next four years to prevent and reduce underage drinking together!

Today, we held our Planting for Tomorrow event for our Raices Vivas program funded by Arizona Department of Forestry and Fire Management. This was a fun community event where families planted trees at Apollo Middle School SUSD and helped make the school greener!

A very special thank you to Tucson Clean and Beautiful for donating native trees, Flowers & Bullets for educating all participants on the importance of tree planting, and Apollo Middle School for allowing us to plant 5 new trees!

🌟NEW GRANT ALERT🌟

Amistades is a 2026 AHEAD program grant winner and will be awarded $95,000, delivered by RDF in partnership with Federal Home Loan Bank of San Francisco. These grant funds will support Capital Culture, a culturally rooted financial empowerment initiative that uses traditional Latino Tandas (Lending Circles) to help low-income families build savings, strengthen financial knowledge, access banking resources, and explore workforce and entrepreneurship opportunities. The program builds on trusted community practices to create pathways toward greater financial stability and long-term economic mobility.

On Indigenous Peoples’ Day, we honor the rich history, cultures, resilience, and contributions of the Indigenous communities. Today, and every day, we acknowledge the land we live on and the Indigenous peoples whose deep connection to the desert has guided generations. It was a pleasure to welcome representatives from the Consulado de México en Tucson to Amistades and share more about our work across Southern Arizona.

For 20 years, Amistades has worked alongside Latino and immigrant families, creating opportunities through education, prevention, economic empowerment, and culturally grounded programs.

Our conversation was an opportunity to explore how we can build on our shared commitment to supporting Mexican nationals and their families, expanding access to resources, and strengthening the connections between institutions and the communities they serve.

We are excited about the possibilities ahead, from supporting families through our existing programs to exploring new approaches to community engagement and strategic partnerships.

Thank you to Consul Fernando Sánchez and the Consulate team for your visit, your leadership, and your commitment to our community.
