⚾️ Honoring Our Youth at the Native Nations Baseball Tournament 💛

Congratulations to one of our own, Pascua Yaqui youth athlete from Guadalupe, Angel “JJ” Medina, and the Arizona Sons on claiming the Native Nations Championship. JJ, a student at Marcos De Niza High School, continues to represent our community with pride, dedication, and heart.

A special thank you to PYT Council Member Gloria Alvarez Gomez and Salt River Council Member Jacob Butler for standing alongside our youth, showing their support, and honoring the moment by throwing the first pitch on Juneteenth.

Tournaments like this create meaningful pathways for our young athletes, bringing visibility, opportunity, and growth.

We also extend our gratitude to DJ Carrasco for helping create these opportunities and opening doors for the next generations.

Our PYT TERO Department is grateful to everyone who helped make Saturday night’s Monsoon Vendor Night a success. 🌧️✨

Our vendors were truly the stars of the evening, sharing their creativity, talent, and dedication while helping us strengthen community and create more opportunities for our small business owners and artists.

We also extend our appreciation to Tribal Council Member Gloria Alvarez Gomez for joining us and supporting our vendors and community.

🎉 Stay tuned, TERO will be announcing three vendor raffle winners later this week!

Yesterday, Tribal Council had the opportunity to participate in a joint meeting with the Penjamo Yaqui Board of Directors. The meeting provided an important opportunity to receive updates, identify shared goals and priorities, and discuss both the immediate and long-term needs of our tribal members residing in Scottsdale, Arizona.

Our discussion focused on several key issues, including the urgent need for housing to help preserve the Penjamo Yaqui community, systemic changes impacting our students within the Scottsdale Unified School District, potential cultural exchange opportunities, and the importance of strengthening communication and outreach efforts to ensure our Penjamo families remain informed, engaged, and connected.

We also discussed long-term planning, resource development, and strategies to ensure our tribal members continue to have access to the programs, services, and support they deserve.

Tribal Council remains committed to strengthening its partnership with the Penjamo Yaqui Board of Directors. Together, we are dedicated to preserving our traditions, culture, and way of life while creating opportunities that support and strengthen our tribal members and future generations.

At the request of Chairman Julian Hernandez, we are sharing an official press release from the Tohono O’odham Nation regarding recent legal action to protect their reservation lands.

The Tohono O’odham Nation has filed a lawsuit against the U.S. Department of Homeland Security to prevent the construction of a border wall on their lands, citing concerns about impacts to their land, water, sacred sites, and cultural practices.

This action reflects the Nation’s longstanding efforts to protect its sovereignty while continuing to support border security measures that do not include a permanent wall on Tribal lands.

We stand in respect and recognition of our neighboring Tribes as they advocate for their lands, culture, and sovereignty.

This information is shared to help keep Tribal Members informed on this important matter affecting our neighboring Nation.
