The Community Learning Center (CLC) is both a place and a set of partnerships between the school and other community resources that leads to improved student learning, stronger families and healthier communities. Students will benefit from rich partnerships to support and enhance their learning with the absolute goal of college/career/community readiness. It is the vision of StrengthBuilding Partn
ers to create a Model Community Learning Center that will significantly impact the persistent underperformance of our local schools, provide resources to support economic growth and encourage business development in what was the heart of our technology center, the Airport Authority Region in south Tucson. We propose to grow a new and vibrant educational technology center that is rooted in the history and culture of our community -- a center which responds to the educational needs of 21st century workforce and to serve as a model for underperforming schools, both locally and nationally.Through its ten years of work in Tucson, StrengthBuilding Partners (SBP) has developed strong partnerships with other organizations, businesses, tribal entities and institutions of higher learning. We are actively seeking to grow this base of partnerships to maximize the potential of community resources to support the CLC. Partners such as the Southwest Conservation Corps and the Pima County Superintendent’s Office have voiced their desire to be active partners in this venture. Other potential partners with whom we hav been meeting include: the University of Arizona, Arizona State University, Pima Community College, and several local businesses and business leaders.
