If you are a veteran or you know of a veteran that is homeless or is at risk of becoming homeless, help them to connect with a local VA Center. The VA has established a 24 hour toll free National Call Center for Homeless Veterans at 877-4AID-VET or 877-424-3838 along with a connection through their website. Veterans, November is National Diabetes Month and you can take advantage of the many classes and workshops that the Southern Arizona VA Health Care System (SAVAHCS) offers to help manage your diabetes. Below is a list of classes and support groups offered at the Tucson VA.

Classes:
Saguaro Clinic – Learn how to keep your blood sugar in your target range by eating healthy, taking your medicine every day and increasing your activity. To sign up, call your PACT team.

Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) – Assigned to a CBOC? Attend class at your clinic. Learn about nutrition, medication, problem solving and how to cope. To sign up, call your clinic or send a secure message to your PACT team.

Healthy Living with Diabetes – taught by a Veteran and VA staff. Meets for 6 weeks. Each session is 2 and half hours, for more information, call 520-792-1450 extension 4971.

Gateway to Healthy Living – set and reach your goals. Get support from VA Health Coaches and other Veterans. To sign up call 520-792-1450 ext. 4971 or extension 4659.

Support:
Diabetes Distress – Regain control of your life. Join other Veterans in this supportive group. Focus on ways to cope with the emotional toll of diabetes. Learn new skills to achieve balance and healthy living. Held in Ocotillo Clinic every Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. – 11:00 a.m. To sign up, call (520)-629-4881.

Diabetes Support – Join other Veterans to get and give support to get and stay healthy. Meet every other month on the third Thursday from 5:00 p.m. – 6:30 p.m. To sign up, call (520)792-1450 extension 5076 or 6449.

Diabetes Fair – held once a year at the Tucson VAMC. For more information, call the Patient Education Resource Center (PERC) (520)792-1450 extension 6516.

Veterans this weekend staff members from the Tucson VA and the Tucson Vet Center will be providing outreach services at the 29th Annual Nam Jam concert on October 8, 2016 at the Reid Park Band Shell located at 900 S Randolph Way, Tucson, AZ 85716.

Staff from Eligibility and Enrollment, Homeless Outreach Program, Southwestern Blind Rehabilitation Center (SWBRC), and the Mobile Vet Center will be on site providing information on VA services offered to eligible Veterans and their families.

Nam Jam is a free concert event open to all Veterans and the general public.The event is scheduled from 9 a.m. till 7 p.m.

Recently, VA Mobile launched a new app called Ask a Pharmacist, which provides resources and tools for Veterans to help them answer questions and find information related to VA pharmacies and medications.

The app also consolidates this information into one place and includes links to Secure Messaging and Rx Refill for verified My HealtheVet users, providing Veterans with a repository of pharmacy resources that they can easily access with the comfort of knowing that the information is valid and from trusted sources.

Women Veterans the Tucson VA offers a Women Veteran Support Group that meets the third Tuesday of each month at 10 a.m. in the Women's Health Clinic located in Building 81, Second Floor.

Veterans and their families are invited to participate in Southern Arizona VA Health Care System’s (SAVAHCS) town-hall meeting to discuss health care programs and services on September 20th from 6:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. in the R.E. Lindsey Jr. Auditorium located in Building 4 at the main Tucson VA campus at 3601 S. 6th Ave. Tucson, AZ 85723.

The meeting is open to all Veterans, members of the public, Congressional stakeholders, Veterans Service Organizations, community partners, and state and local governmental and non-governmental organizations.

The town-hall meetings are held quarterly and provide an opportunity for us to hear directly from our Veterans. Leadership will also give updates on services offered at SAVAHCS and answer questions from Veterans and their family members.

If a Veteran has an individual concern, staff will be on-hand to work directly with them. We will have members of our Eligibility and Enrollment department, Patient Advocate office, staff from the Veterans Benefits Administration Phoenix Regional Office, and TriWest available to assist Veterans.

Please note, due to auditorium capacity, seating will be limited to 75–100 people, if you plan to attend, we encourage you to arrive early, doors open at 5:30 p.m. The closest parking to the venue is in Lot Q.
