The Tulare Police Department is proud to welcome Kevin Kroeze as our newest Captain!

With more than 26 years of law enforcement experience, Captain Kroeze has held assignments in patrol, investigations, and administration, serving as an officer, detective, sergeant, and lieutenant. Captain Kroeze currently oversees the Administrative Division, which includes Records, Dispatch, School Resource Officers (SROs), HALO, Animal Services, Hiring & Recruitment, and other administrative functions.

On July 30, 2026, at approximately 1:30 a.m. officers with the Tulare Police Department responded to the area of B Street and Cross Avenue in the City of Tulare following reports of a shooting.

During the investigation, officers determined that two suspects riding electric scooters fired multiple rounds at a vehicle occupied by victims who were stopped at the intersection. Fortunately, no one inside the vehicle was struck by the gunfire. The suspects fled the area immediately after the shooting.

The shooting was investigated by the Tulare Police Department's Street Crimes Unit. During the course of the investigation, detectives developed information that led to the identification of one of the suspects involved in the shooting.

On August 4, 2026, Street Crimes detectives, with the assistance of the Tulare Police Department SWAT Team, served a search warrant and arrest warrant at a residence in the 300 block of North G Street. During the operation, detectives arrested a 16-year-old Tulare juvenile in connection with the shooting. Detectives also recovered a handgun, a high-capacity magazine, and gang-related evidence from the residence.

The juvenile was transported to the Tulare County Juvenile Detention Facility, where he was booked on charges related to the investigation.

This investigation remains active. Anyone with information related to this incident is encouraged to contact Detective Gilmore at (559) 658-4581.

The Tulare Police Department would like to thank everyone who came out and made the 3rd Annual Back to School Bash such a success!

We had an amazing turnout, and it was wonderful to see so many families enjoying a fun-filled morning together.

A special thank you to our incredible partners, Galaxy Theatres and Race Communications, for their generous donations and continued support of our community. We couldn't do this without you!

Thank you to Don Gummy for keeping everyone refreshed with delicious aguas frescas, Pelican's Snoballs for the tasty snow cones, and everyone who helped make the event so memorable with games, face painting, and smiles all around.

Extreme Heat Alert – Cooling Center Open
Due to the extreme heat forecast by the National Weather Service, the City of Tulare has opened a Cooling Center at:
Tulare Public Library
475 North M Street, Tulare
Open from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on July 30 through August 9, 2026
This is a safe, air-conditioned space for anyone needing relief from the high temperatures.
Additionally, we have partnered with Lowes, Walmart, Target, and Home Depot
who encourage you to beat the heat with some “retail therapy” and shop local.
Please check on neighbors, the elderly, and those without access to cooling.

The Tulare Police Department is excited to remind our community that our 3rd Annual Back to School Bash is happening TOMORROW! 📚✏️🎉

This year, Tulare Police Department, Race Communications, and Galaxy Theatres have teamed up to give away OVER 600 BACKPACKS filled with school supplies to help our local students start the school year off right! 🎒🙌

But that’s not all! Lazer Radio and a variety of local vendors will be joining us for a morning full of fun, family-friendly activities and community resources!
