UCCE Tulare/Kings Master Gardener Program

UCCE Tulare/Kings Master Gardener Program The UC Master Gardeners are volunteers who can answer your gardening questions. Call our helpline at 559-684-3325 Tues & Thurs 9:30 - 11:30.

The mission of the Master Gardener program is to provide research-based information for gardening practices and technologies of home horticulture, integrated pest management (IPM), and environmental resource conservation. Master Gardeners answer questions, conduct demonstrations, diagnose plant/pest problems, and provide this horticultural assistance by telephone, newspaper, public speaking, and public contact.

Go Native! is an annual event at Kaweah Oaks Preserve that celebrates Native American heritage. There were several activities including basket weaving, making reed ducks, a drum circle, and various vendors. Our Master Gardeners were there with a spin-the-wheel activity and a craft, making suncatchers using contact paper and pressed flowers. Turn up the volume to listen to the sounds of the drum circle.

Visiting Woodlake Botanical Garden is always a treat, but visiting during their Berry Tasting Festival elevates the experience. Our Master Gardeners were there with a kid’s activity of planting sunflower seeds and an information booth. All along the path were tasting stations: raspberries and blackberries, blueberries, strawberries, citrus, stone fruits, and a table where participants could select up to 4 seedlings. This is a must-do if you’re in the area next year.
