🐦🌿 Learning Takes Flight in Mrs. Sain’s Class! 🌿🐦

As part of our current PBL, “Roots, Boots & Being Well,” Mrs. Sain’s class is learning all about the amazing outdoor spaces and gardens right here at Hickerson Elementary STEM School! 🌱🥾💚

Today’s focus was our Aviary Outdoor Classroom! 🐦🏡 With the heat index soaring ☀️🥵, it was just too hot for our little learners to head outside—but that didn’t stop the hands-on learning! 🙌🧠

Instead, students brought a little bit of the aviary inside by creating their very own bird nests to give their bird stuffies a cozy new home! 🪺🐥💕 Students explored what birds use to build nests and put their creativity and STEM thinking to work as they designed their own! 🌿🪶

👏 A BIG Hickerson shout-out to one of our wonderful Community Partners, Chris Murphy! Chris brought in real bird nests for our students to examine up close! 🔍🪺 What an incredible opportunity for our students to observe, ask questions, make connections, and learn from the real thing! 🤩

Whether we’re learning outside in our gardens 🌻 or bringing nature inside 🐦, there is always something exciting happening at Hickerson! 💛🖤

💐🌻 5th Grade is BLOOMING with Creativity! 🌻💐

Our 5th graders put their creativity to work today as they designed beautiful flower bouquets to enter in the Coffee County Fair! 🎡🌸🌼

Students carefully selected, arranged, and combined flowers to create their own unique designs. 💐✨ We love opportunities like this that allow our students to use their creativity while connecting with our community and participating in a wonderful Coffee County tradition! 💛

We can’t wait to see these beautiful bouquets on display at the fair! 🎡🌺 Be sure to stop by and check out the amazing work of our Hickerson Hawks! 🐾💐

Today, we’re excited to put the spotlight on the amazing young ladies representing Hickerson Elementary STEM School on the basketball court this season! 🦅🏀✨

Our Lady Hawks are ready to work hard, play together, encourage one another, and show great sportsmanship both on and off the court! 💪💛We are so proud of these student-athletes and can’t wait to watch them grow in confidence, teamwork, and skill throughout the season. ⭐🏀

✂️🌱 Snip, Snip, Hooray for Pre-K! 🌱✂️

Pre-K students put their scissor skills to work today in the cutest way! 💛✂️ Our spider plants were in need of a little trim, so these young gardeners stepped in to give them some much-needed haircuts! 💇‍♀️🌿😂

This hands-on activity was a perfect way to practice fine motor skills, hand-eye coordination, and safe scissor use while caring for the plants in our school! 🪴💪

At Hickerson, even a plant haircut can turn into a STEM learning experience! 🌱🔬💡

🌱💛Meet Our 2026–27 Nursery Workers — 3rd through 5th Grade! 💛🌱

Our Nursery Worker team keeps growing! 🌿🙌 We are excited to introduce our 3rd, 4th, and 5th grade Nursery Workers at Hickerson Elementary STEM School! 🪴🌻

These students are ready to roll up their sleeves and take on some BIG responsibilities! 💪👩‍🌾👨‍🌾 From caring for plants in our greenhouse and gardens 🌱 to watering 💦, w**ding, planting, harvesting 🥕🍅, and maintaining our outdoor learning spaces, these students play an important role in keeping Hickerson growing! 🌼🦋

As our older Nursery Workers, they also have an opportunity to be leaders and role models for our younger students. 💛 Through this experience, they are learning responsibility, teamwork, problem-solving, perseverance, and the value of taking pride in a job well done! ⭐️

🌱 We aren’t just growing plants at Hickerson—we’re growing LEADERS! 🌱

🌱💛 Meet Our 2026–27 Nursery Workers! 💛🌱

We are excited to introduce some of the youngest members of our Hickerson Elementary STEM School Nursery Worker team—our amazing Pre-K through 2nd grade students! 🪴🌼👩‍🌾👨‍🌾

These little hands are doing BIG work! 💪🌱 Throughout the school year, our Nursery Workers will help care for our school gardens, greenhouse, plants, and outdoor learning spaces. 🌻🦋🥕 They’ll learn how to plant, water, w**d, harvest, and—most importantly—take responsibility for something that depends on them! 💦🌿

Being a Nursery Worker is about so much more than growing plants. 🌱 It’s about growing responsibility, teamwork, confidence, leadership, and a strong work ethic! 💛

We are so proud of our Pre-K through 2nd grade Nursery Workers and can’t wait to watch our students AND our gardens grow this year! 🌻🌱✨

💛 Behind the Scenes of Fantastic Friday! 💛

When our students are out learning, creating, exploring, and making connections with our amazing Community Partners during Fantastic Friday 🌱🔬🛠️💻, there’s something pretty fantastic happening behind the scenes, too! ✨

👩‍🏫📚 While students are engaged in these hands-on experiences, our grade-level teachers are hard at work collaborating, researching, discussing, and planning together.

They’re digging into standards 📖, studying student data 📊, sharing ideas 💡, discussing student needs 🤝, and working together to make instruction even stronger. This dedicated collaboration time gives our teachers an opportunity to learn from one another and thoughtfully plan what comes next for their students. ❤️

🌟 That’s one of the things that makes Fantastic Friday so special!

While our Community Partners and staff are pouring their knowledge, talents, and experiences into our students, our classroom teachers are using that valuable time to pour into their instruction and one another. 👏

Fantastic Friday isn't just about the incredible things you see happening with our students—it’s also about the incredible work happening behind the scenes! 🎉

We are so thankful for our Community Partners who help make these opportunities possible and for our teachers who continually collaborate, learn, plan, and grow to give our students their very best! 🦅💛🖤
