This evenings drill focused on vehicle fires. Members were able to work through multiple evolutions throughout the night, gaining valuable hands-on experience and sharpening their skills.

Otisco was dispatched mutual aid to South Onondaga for a mvc early this morning. Otisco Cars 1/2/3 and RP2 took the assignment tending hazards and washing off the road. Units were back in service within the hour.

The 2026 NYS burn ban is over for now but please be mindful while burning

Refer to NYS DEC for any questions

Open burning is the single greatest cause of wildfires in NYS. Since the spring burn ban was implemented in 2009, the number of wildfires has decreased by more than 40%.

This evening, members trained on our tower to sharpen their high-angle rescue skills. Crews practiced both ascending and descending techniques while operating with a litter and attendant, reinforcing safety, coordination, and efficiency in a simulated challenging condition

Dispatch ** 14:03 ** F-FIRE-RESIDENTIAL **TULLY FARMS RD ** - ** ** OTISCO RD AND NICHOLS

This afternoon at 1403hrs Otisco Fire was dispatched with multiple other Departments mutual aid to the Southwestern portion of LaFayettes District for a residential fire. Otisco Car 3, TA1 and TP1 took in the assignment. Members assisted with fire suppression while TA1 fed LaFayettes engine and TP1 secured a water supply on Nichols road. Units operated for around 2.5hrs before returning to service.

Tonight we had the opportunity to train with Gas Operations from NYSEG for an emergency response demonstration.

The session covered gas behavior, leak recognition, and the critical steps first responders need to take to keep scenes safe. Getting to see these scenarios demonstrated in a controlled environment is something you can’t fully replicate in the field—and it makes a difference when seconds count.
