The following is the data for the Thurston County Sheriffโ€™s Office Traffic Unit during quarter 1 and 2 of 2026. The unit is comprised of 2 full time traffic enforcement units, 1 traffic unit assigned to county roads, and 1 sergeant.

Collisions investigated: 59
Serious injury/fatal collisions: 10
Serious injury/fatal collision assists: 6
DUI arrests: 59
Total traffic stops: 338
Citations issued: 152
*Warnings: 345

*Warnings include a total number of warnings for all violations on a given stop. For instance, someone can be pulled over for speed and given a ticket for speed and a warning for expired tabs and a burnt out brake light. That data point would count as one citation and two warnings.

TCSO, TUMWATER PD, AND K9 IGO CAPTURE SUSPECTS INVOLVED IN MULTI STATE CRIME SPREE

Last night, Tumwater units responded to an auto theft in progress. A white Dodge Ram was stolen and was associated with a black sedan (later determined to also be stolen).

The suspects were seen dumping the contents of the stolen truck on the ground and were located by a Tumwater Sergeant a short time later. A traffic stop was attempted, and the driver of the truck fled. K9 Igo and his handler joined, and a short pursuit was initiated before the suspect crashed into a light pole.

The driver left his injured passengers behind and fled into the woods, refusing to surrender despite K9 warnings being given. K9 Igo apprehended the suspect until a second officer caught up and detained the suspect.

Passengers in the wrecked truck (which included a runaway juvenile) told deputies that they have โ€œbeen committing crimes and stealing cars for three weeks along I5 from Seattle to Portlandโ€ and ran from Oregon State Police. While the K9 takedown was occurring, it was reported that the occupants of the other stolen car ran into the Steamboat Trading Post down the street and shoplifted before fleeing the area at a high rate of speed.

Additionally, multiple callers advised the same suspects also tried to steal or break into their car. The occupants of the stolen Dodge Ram were placed under arrest by Tumwater PD.

Great job by Tumwater units and K9 Igo to bring this multi state crime spree to an end and prevent further victimization.

Over the last week, TCSO took numerous complaints regarding a white motorcycle driving recklessly on Boston Harbor Rd.

Tonight, a deputy and I met up on Boston Harbor Rd and monitored traffic. Shortly after, two recklessly driven motorcycles were observed riding on Boston Harbor Rd. When the deputy attempted to stop the bikes, they accelerated to speeds over 120mph before exiting down a dead end road and pulling over.

Both drivers were arrested for reckless driving and both motorcycles were impounded.

Early Saturday morning, a TCSO deputy attempted to stop a DUI driver swerving across I5 SB to the extent that other drivers put their hazard lights on to warn others.

The driver pulled over initially, then fled at speeds over 100mph. As additional units joined the pursuit, the driver pulled to the side of the road near the Lewis county line. The pursuing deputy pinned the vehicle in and took the driver into custody for felony DUI and attempting to elude.

Last night deputies and K9 Asher responded to numerous priority assists for other agencies.

In the first incident, Centralia PD was in pursuit of an unlicensed Dodge Charger. The occupants were wanted for felony assault.

The vehicle blacked out at speeds over 130mph and Centralia PD terminated. A short time later, a possible address was provided for the suspects. Deputies located the suspect car at the address and Centralia responded and obtained a search warrant. Both suspects were apprehended without incident and turned over to Centralia PD.

A short time later, Olympia was dispatched to a shooting on the west side with multiple persons shot. K9 Asher and his handler located an involved vehicle and conducted a traffic stop. A driver that was covered in blood over to OPD units for further investigation.

When critical incidents occur, it is imperative that local law enforcement agencies work together to solve crime and keep our county safe.

Today deputies and I were dispatched to a crisis call in Rochester. An individual suffering from dementia became confused after seeing an old picture and became aggressive with family.

After confirming everyone was ok, we requested our mobile outreach SCOUT team and provided a warm handoff between the family and the team. The SCOUT team will work to find a sustainable long term solution for the family while freeing deputies up to continue on to other 911 calls.

My heart goes out to those impacted by dementia related issues. Every time we go to calls like this you can see how bad the individual and their family are hurting.
