Citizens Serving Communities...

South Sound Composite Squadron (PCR-WA-019) is the local unit of Washington Wing, Civil Air Patrol serving the Thurston, Mason, and Gray's Harbor area. Our three primary missions include Cadet Programs, Aerospace Education, and Emergency Services. Starting as a Coastal Patrol station during World War II under the name Olympia Composite Squadron, we have been serving the South Sound area since 1941. Our name was changed to South Sound around 2005 to reflect that we encompassed the surrounding areas as well.

Today, we have a strong cadet program teaching leadership and civic responsibility to youth 12-21 years old. Cadets have many opportunities to actively practice what they learn at various functions and activities. They also have opportunities to see and do things in aerospace and emergency management that the average teen does not. We maintain an aircraft that is used for Orientation Flights and emergency missions on a regular basis, and have a robust aerospace education program, teaching everything from the physics of flight to weather, to cybertechnology. Our Senior Members (adult members) are quite active with the cadet program, but also with emergency services (including communications and aircrews) and running training programs at the Armory.

Our weekly meetings are every Thursday evening from 6:00pm to 8:30pm at the Olympia Armory (515 Eastside St SE). Feel free to stop by and introduce yourself! We always welcome prospective cadets and senior members, and would love to talk to you about the opportunities we can offer.
