Tunkhannock Township Police is proud to announce the addition of a new 2025 Ford Police Interceptor Utility K9 vehicle to its fleet, further enhancing officer safety, operational efficiency, and the well-being of its K9 partner, K9 Tsavo.

This state-of-the-art vehicle is specifically outfitted for K9 operations and includes the ACE K9 Heat Alarm System, a critical safety feature designed to monitor interior temperatures. In the event of rising heat levels, the system automatically activates alerts and safety measures, including opening windows, activating fans, and notifying the handler to ensure K9 Tsavo remains safe at all times. Members of the public are encouraged to call 911 immediately if they hear or observe the ACE K9 alarm activated.

The vehicle also features newly designed department graphics, giving it a fresh, modern look that reflects the professionalism and forward-thinking approach of the Tunkhannock Township Police.

"Between the thin red line and the thin blue line, lies the thinnest gold line. That gold line represents those that are rarely seen but mostly heard. The calm voice heard in the dark night. Dispatchers. The golden glue that holds it all together."

Happy National Telecommunicators week to our friends at the Wyoming County Communication Center, and dispatchers everywhere. We greatly appreciate your contributions to keeping our community safe.

Please join us in welcoming our newest K9 officer, Tsavo, to the department! Tsavo is a highly skilled Belgian Malinois, known for his intelligence, loyalty, and strong work ethic—qualities that make him an outstanding addition to our team.

Today is also a special day for Tsavo, as he celebrates his 2nd birthday. While he’s still young, he’s already demonstrated the focus and determination needed to serve and protect our community. We’re proud to have him on board and look forward to the impact he’ll make alongside his handler, Ptlm Ben Seibert.

As we welcome Tsavo, we also take a moment to remember our recently departed K9, Etu. Etu served with unwavering dedication, courage, and heart, leaving a lasting impact on our department and the community she protected. Her legacy of loyalty and service will never be forgotten. Tsavo steps into this role with big paws to fill, and we are confident he will carry forward that legacy with the same spirit, honoring Etu through his own commitment to duty.

Happy Birthday, Tsavo, and welcome to the family

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Tunkhannock Township Police Department Honors the Service of K9 Etu

The Tunkhannock Township Police Department announces with deep sadness the passing of K9 Etu, a five-year-old Belgian Malinois who faithfully served alongside her handler, Patrolman Ben Seibert.

K9 Etu was a highly trained police service dog known for her dedication, intelligence, and unwavering loyalty. She was an invaluable member of the department and a trusted partner to Patrolman Seibert, forming a bond rooted in commitment and teamwork. Tragically, K9 Etu passed away after developing a sudden medical condition.

Despite the tireless and compassionate efforts of the veterinary professionals who worked to save her life, K9 Etu’s condition proved too severe. The department is deeply grateful to the veterinarians and medical staff whose dedication and care extended every possible measure on her behalf.

Throughout her service, K9 Etu demonstrated professionalism, courage, and an eagerness to serve and protect the community. Her presence made a lasting impact on the department and the residents of Tunkhannock Township.

The department extends its heartfelt condolences to Patrolman Seibert and thanks the community for its continued support during this difficult time. K9 Etu’s service and sacrifice will never be forgotten.

A heartfelt thank you to everyone who made today possible.
