3/7/25 - Windy, Cold, Some Snow, and a Return to Grooming!!!
🔶 Be Advised - Our Neighbors to the East have closed portions of their trail system. If you want to traverse fom Tug Hill to Brantingham you will need to take C7B from Lewi 45 to C8B (make a right at route 12 in front of The Edge Hotel), Go past Boondocks, and past Stewarts, then stay on C8B to head toward Brantingham, even drew you all a little map with green arrows indicating the route and included below. Our section of C7B remains open but is very icy and thin on snow as you head East. Also TRR C5A and C5K remain open but are dead end trails as you can see on the map they are closed to the East of Route 12.
Before we get into the report, as you can see in the pics below some TRR volunteers and operators are in the mountains of Utah and Idaho enjoying their wieners around a fire during a long day of riding and screwing off in the powder, all made possible by our friends and sponsor Beaver Creek Lodge. Check them out as they have a spring special going on right now, riding the mountains of Utah and Idaho on brand new sleds is more affordable than you think. Thank you Beaver Creek for your continued support!
POKER RUN TOMORROW, hosted by Whiskey Jacks....will the midnight hauler make an appearance? Only time will tell... Join in on the fun and help raise funds to keep the trails here and in great shape. Thank you to Whiskey Jacks for hosting this event on our behalf!
Temps in the high teens this morning and a howling wind off of lady O as a cold front has kicked us squarely in nardos since paasing yesterday afternoon. We picked up a couple of inches of snow, really hard to say as the snow fell on top of the wet snowpack that was quickly glazing over causing the falling snow to really blow around like leaves on concrete, or in this case snow on top of rapidly crust. Temps today and for the weekend will stay below freezing and below normal before warmth comes next week, at least for a bit with temps into the 40s and maybe even 50s...almost time to break out the bug spray (not...this winter will hang on like the best hangover ever...just watch)
We are currently down one groomer pending a new track but both operational TRR groomers were out last night with true legends in the seat, taking advantage of the rapidly dropping temps, soft snow, and a little bit of fresh falling in the howling winds. Our trail inspection yesterday is allowing us to keep all trails open but our grooming efforts will be limited in certain areas due to having little more than an Icy base, still passable with caution, but not enough snow to really work with (primarily the yellow squared areas on the map). Last night the Stache took Pixie and groomed Lee Gulf and the portions of C7B that he could, mainly in the Turin village area and then headed back up the hill and groomed the RR Bed and North South Road, slow going due to the wet snow but doing our best to smooth it all out before the the temps set it rock hard. At the same time, the Midnight Hauler groomed the seasonal roads, Tabolts Corners to Whiskey Jacks, Smith Road, and Gomer Hill section of C7B, removing some downed trees along the way. Conditions today will be quite icy, especially early or where the wind has not allowed any fresh snow to accumulate, run ice scratchers if you have them and use caution. Grooming went good last night but grooming wet snow as temps are crashing is an art and even Picasso made mistakes, so it wont be perfect out there this morning but in better shape than we found it. Please ride carefully and stay off of closed trails.
