3/15/25 - One More Time!!!

We are still in the 40s this morning…unlike sally (sorry), with temps going up into the high 50s and maybe even 60s today, rain tomorrow. While it will still take some time for the snow to fully depart, this will be our last daily trail report of this year. We will check back if anything changes (which it certainly will) and also provide a little end of the season update too. Thanks checking in with us daily ridge riders!!

Last night we had one groomer out, piloted by Bob and Marianne, a warm and tough night of grooming but left the seasonal roads better than we found them, Tabolts Corners, Highmarket, Smith Rd areas, flattened all of the mashed potatoes out and even balled some up for sure. We also worked on the banks along carpenter road for better road travel since the roads are baked off. Today will be very very soft…soft like a…well I will hold onto that thought. Seasonal roads have good coverage though thinning in some spots where the sun is baking, Lee Gulf is really thin, probably the last day for that trail to be open. Parking areas are listed below, ride safely please!!!

3/14/25- Another Warm One Coming...Happy Birthday Sally!

Today temps will be into the 50s and Sally will forever be 29 🙃, warmer yet tomorrow, rain Sunday, a very very warm stretch of weather followed by the wet stuff that will eat into our snowpack and the warm sun this week has already done so. We now have closed all trails along West Rd and Lee Gulf is very close to being closed as well, maybe today, maybe by the end of the weekend, just watching conditions. The NYSSA map has been updated.

Riding remains limited to the seasonal roads, green squares on the map, with varying conditions. Right around freezing this morning so crusty, icy, and bumpy in spots but softening later as the sun gets higher in the sky with what will end up being mashed potato conditions. Grooming opportunities look to be minimal and while we still have a considerable snow/ice pack on the hill it is disappearing day by day.

Some TRR members just got back from a trip to Beaver Creek Lodge and shared some pics, had a blast and the 2024 TRR Membership Giveaway winner is there riding now! We will AGAIN be giving away a trip for two to Beaver Creek Lodge to a random lucky TRR member that joins our club between 4/1 and 12/10 for the upcoming snowmobile season! More to come on that! Thanks Beaver Creek for continuing to support us!

With St. Patrick's Day approaching and the weather warming we thought the title would be appropriate for today. Starting off today right around freezing with temps that will warm into the 40s today and well into the 50s tomorrow with warm again Saturday and looking like some rain for the second half of the weekend.

Yesterday remained seasonal with temps in the mid 30s and cloudy skies during the afternoon, staving off major snow melting for the day. We took advantage of the quick cold shot and groomed Tuesday Night (RR Bed and North South Road) and on Wednesday groomed the seasonal roads Tabolts Corners to Highmarket, Smith Road areas, and also Lee Gulf after fixing a broken sign board which delayed our run by an hour. Overall conditions remain much the same, hard and crusty in the morning with softening snow in the afternoons which will be the case today. Lee Gulf is thinning on snow in spots, not sure it will make it open to the weekend, same with the small portion of C5M that remains open near snow ridge. A decent but relatively hard base of snow/ice remains on the seasonal roads and at this point of the year the sun is our friend, loosening up the base enough to cool sleds. It is quite likely that the seasonal roads reteain enough coverage through the weekend for some die hard riding but grooming is uncertain at best due to the warm temps forecasted. We labeled the pics below to give you an idea of conditions!

Thank you to Whiskey Jacks for your recent donation following the poker run, much appreciated!

What a sunny and warm day on Tuesday. The snow rollers of Monday are all but forgotten as they have simply evaporated under that warm late winter sun as temps went into the 50s on Tuesday. We are in the 20s this morning as expected and temps will climb into the 30s in the higher elevations later today and possibly some rain or snow showers too as a warm front approaches. Warm warm warm weather will be the story for Thursday and beyond with a potentially big shot of rain coming in by Sunday.

Seeing the drop in temps forecasted we sent our first groomer last night and two more TRR groomers will be out this morning, taking advantage of the below freezing temps while we have them. The Shizz groomed the RR Bed and North South Road last night with good results, probably rock hard and icy this morning though...but smooth. The Midnight Hauler and TomKat are scheduled to groom this morning, Lee Gulf and The Seasonal roads from Tabolts Corners to Highmarket and Smith Road are on the schedule to make the day enjoyable for anyone that ventures out before the unseasonably warm air makes a comeback for Thursday. For today expect varying conditions from rock hard/icy and smooth where we groomed last night early on to softening and soft and bumpy later. All road edges are completely baked off so choose your routes wisely. Spring riding at its finest, enjoy!

3/11/25 - From Lion to Lamb

March is fully here and yesterday's temps that almost touched 50 in the high elevations and the increasingly bright sun are both a reminder of where the calendar is at, though the temps Monday were well above normal for this time of year. Today will be more of the same, even a bit warmer than Monday, with some rain or snow showers tonight and some cooling temps that will be a bit more seasonable on Wednesday before a return to well above average warmth for the remainder of the week. Looks like some heavier rain Saturday night into Sunday.

No grooming to report from yesterday but was able to take a quick ride in the evening, Highmarket Area, Smith Road, Tabolts Corners, RR Bed, and down through West Leyden and back through Constableville to get back home to the sun still being up at 7 PM. The ride was a lot of fun, some trails were mint, some were beat up from the sun and the other riders out enjoying the warmth. The straighter and wider the trail the better it was, tight and twisties were tight and mogully, completely expected given the warmth, but still an awesome way to spend a Monday evening. Roads and road edges are completely baked off as are many parking areas. For today expect much of the same with a bit of a crusty ride this morning but quickly softening back to mashed potato status. If we see a window to do some grooming during the brief cool down we will take advantage of it as the snow pack will continue to lessen.

The snow is trying to run from the warm up this week!

These are called snow rolls. They are rare to form. The wind will pick up the snow and start to roll it.

3/10/25 - Warming Up and SNOW ROLLERS!!!!

Be advised, portions of C5A, C7B, and C5K are now closed, signage will be going up today and gates will be closed. You are no longer able to traverse from East to West via TRR trails through Lyons Falls or Glenfield. Please respect our landowners and stay off of the closed trails. The NYSSA map will be updated as well.

We are above freezing this morning even in the higher elevations with a temp of 34. We did pick up 2-3 inches of snow last evening in the higher elevations. With the quick hit of fresh snow, strong winds, and a crusty base one of the coolest and rare meteorological phenomena occurred...snow rollers. This is personally my first time seeing them, pretty awesome. Basically they are tumbleweeds of snow that roll up all on their own until they get too large for the wind to keep pushing, basically the hand of god making snowballs, very cool.

Today temps will rise throughout the day, topping out in the 40s. The weather this week looks fairly quiet and warm with temps in the 40's and 50's, minus a 6-12 hour stretch of weather Tuesday into Wednesday where temps will be below freezing. If you are staying at The Edge Hotel you will need to trailer to one of the parking areas listed below.

Some TRR Volunteers are enjoying the riding at Beaver Creek Lodge in Logan Utah, had great riding on a bluebird day on Sunday, pics below. Check out Beaver Creek, a long time TRR sponsor!

On Sunday afternoon and evening we completed three grooming runs with two machines piloted by DP, The Shizz, and Big D. DP groomed Lee Gulf and the Morgan Gulf section of C5A. The Shizz groomed the old RR Bed and North South Road, smoothing it right out. Check out the pic of the snow gauge on the RR Bed...still 3-4 feet out there! Big D groomed the top of the hill on Sunday night in some heavy at times squalls, Tabolts Corners to Highmarket, Whiskey Jacks, Smith Road areas. Today expect soft conditions with some fresh snow too. The areas that we groomed should be in nice shape this morning a prime morning for a ride! We will look for additional opportunities to groom, maybe we can do some limited grooming to take advantage of the quick shot of cold air midweek? We will see. The longer range forecast does not grooming friendly.

3/9/25 - Pour Some Sugar On Me!!!! 🤘

22 degrees this morning under some cloudy skies with a few flakes in the air. For today we expect some snow showers which may mix with some rain showers as spring is well..springing. A warming trend starts today and lasts as far out as we can see, minus some intermittent returns to winter. It looks like Wed this week will be the only day after today with temps in the 30s, lots of 40's and 50's in the forecast but we have NO complaints has been a truly awesome winter.

Before we get into the grooming report it is likely that we will be closing most if not all of the yellow squared trails on the map on Monday, so please plan accordingly as those trails are already thin on snow, icy, and will be getting wet this week with the warming temps.

As has been the case all winter, lots of grooming yesterday and last night from a very dedicated crew, after our monthly membership meeting. Our weekend operators are some of the best that we have as they always face the greatest challenge after busy days of riding. Which by the way...what a busy day of riding it was on Satruday. Traffic yesterday was non stop. While I personally did not get out on the trails, I was able to observe from the Snow Ridge Ski Championship races and it was a steady stream of brappity braap brapp around the area with riders enjoying the strong late winter sun.

Yesterday the Midnight Hauler made a daytime grooming appearance in support of the Whiskey Jacks Poker Run which benefitted our trail grooming fund. THANK YOU Whiskey Jacks and everyone that participated. Waiting for the traffic and temps to cool, Scotty Too Hotty and R***r took two TRR Groomers out (the third is down for the season, needing a track.) Scotty groomed the seasonal roads which were absolutely destroyed, Tabolts Corners to Highmarket, and Smith Road Areas. R***r groomed with Pixie hitting Lee Gulf, C7B going as far east toward The Edge as he could before running low on snow, and The uppermost portions of C5A and C5K, again before running out of snow. There was lots of work to be done and there may still be some bumps out there as we are dealing with the spring sugar snow which simply doesn't hold up...hence the title for today. We intend on grooming again today and tonight though the crystal ball looks murky beyond, unlikely to groom again for the next few days but hopefully not done for the season!

3/7/25 - Windy, Cold, Some Snow, and a Return to Grooming!!!

🔶 Be Advised - Our Neighbors to the East have closed portions of their trail system. If you want to traverse fom Tug Hill to Brantingham you will need to take C7B from Lewi 45 to C8B (make a right at route 12 in front of The Edge Hotel), Go past Boondocks, and past Stewarts, then stay on C8B to head toward Brantingham, even drew you all a little map with green arrows indicating the route and included below. Our section of C7B remains open but is very icy and thin on snow as you head East. Also TRR C5A and C5K remain open but are dead end trails as you can see on the map they are closed to the East of Route 12.

Before we get into the report, as you can see in the pics below some TRR volunteers and operators are in the mountains of Utah and Idaho enjoying their wieners around a fire during a long day of riding and screwing off in the powder, all made possible by our friends and sponsor Beaver Creek Lodge. Check them out as they have a spring special going on right now, riding the mountains of Utah and Idaho on brand new sleds is more affordable than you think. Thank you Beaver Creek for your continued support!

POKER RUN TOMORROW, hosted by Whiskey Jacks....will the midnight hauler make an appearance? Only time will tell... Join in on the fun and help raise funds to keep the trails here and in great shape. Thank you to Whiskey Jacks for hosting this event on our behalf!

Temps in the high teens this morning and a howling wind off of lady O as a cold front has kicked us squarely in nardos since paasing yesterday afternoon. We picked up a couple of inches of snow, really hard to say as the snow fell on top of the wet snowpack that was quickly glazing over causing the falling snow to really blow around like leaves on concrete, or in this case snow on top of rapidly crust. Temps today and for the weekend will stay below freezing and below normal before warmth comes next week, at least for a bit with temps into the 40s and maybe even 50s...almost time to break out the bug spray (not...this winter will hang on like the best hangover ever...just watch)

We are currently down one groomer pending a new track but both operational TRR groomers were out last night with true legends in the seat, taking advantage of the rapidly dropping temps, soft snow, and a little bit of fresh falling in the howling winds. Our trail inspection yesterday is allowing us to keep all trails open but our grooming efforts will be limited in certain areas due to having little more than an Icy base, still passable with caution, but not enough snow to really work with (primarily the yellow squared areas on the map). Last night the Stache took Pixie and groomed Lee Gulf and the portions of C7B that he could, mainly in the Turin village area and then headed back up the hill and groomed the RR Bed and North South Road, slow going due to the wet snow but doing our best to smooth it all out before the the temps set it rock hard. At the same time, the Midnight Hauler groomed the seasonal roads, Tabolts Corners to Whiskey Jacks, Smith Road, and Gomer Hill section of C7B, removing some downed trees along the way. Conditions today will be quite icy, especially early or where the wind has not allowed any fresh snow to accumulate, run ice scratchers if you have them and use caution. Grooming went good last night but grooming wet snow as temps are crashing is an art and even Picasso made mistakes, so it wont be perfect out there this morning but in better shape than we found it. Please ride carefully and stay off of closed trails.

Update our Lower Trails are closed as our the gates so please don’t just disregard the gates and squeeze through on the landowners property This is NOT OKAY

3-6-2025 Trail update

Unfortunately at this time we have made the decision to temporarily close the gates to the following trails

C7B- Lyons Falls to Burdick Crossing Road
C5K- Pioneer Cafe/ Glenfield
C5A- Railroad bed to Glenfield

The decision to close these trails and shut the gates is not what we want to do but with lack of snow and temps recently we have to protect our land owners

Hoping for some freezing temps and more snow so we can open them back up.

There is still access to all upper trails, Stillwater, north crossover, and old forge at this time!

3/6/25 - Noon Update...Not All is Lost!!!

The hurt is over for now with temps dropping back and should be below freezing by this evening. A quick trail inspection today thanks to Chris the Jet and our landowners...all TRR trails remain open for now with some colder temps and light snow expected. Trails conditions conditions will vary from poor in the easternmost lower elevations to good as you head up in elevation with soft and bumpy conditions now and icy conditions prevailing later in the evening as the trails firm up. A few inches of snow would help greatly. All of the pics below are labeled as to location. Great coverage remains West of Route 26 in our area, thins as you head East. We do plan on grooming where we can later today and tonight, conditions permitting of course. If the snow is not flowing in the groomer and there is standing water we may not be able to accomplish much.

Whiskey Jacks poker run this weekend! See Flyer for details!

Temps are back into a more reasonable range this morning, currently at 33 degrees as a cold front is sitting on our doorstep. Temps will fall as the day goes on, into the 20s by sunset, with some snow as the cold front moves through, 2-4 ish inches is expected and some lingering snow showers tomorrow and Saturday. Next week looks mild, but that is a story for another day!

Great news...seeing our post about our toilet, a long time TRR supporter (Let's just call him Henry) is buying us another toilet! Fingers crossed for a power flush model with some sort of garbage disposal like mechanism built in.

We have had well above freezing temps for the past 2.5 days and while the snow pack has certainly taken a hit, there will be riding to be had this weekend. How good and how much is TBD. We will be out checking trails today but by the weekend we anticipate fair riding in some areas and good to great riding in others. We will post an update later today with some trail pictures so everyone is informed, right now it is a bit dark for that. Hopefully we do not have to close any trails due to lack of snow, only a concern for a small are of our trail system as higher elevations have FEET of base. We will resume grooming as soon as we can, letting the water drain a bit so that we can effectively move the snow through the drag. We picked up around a half an inch of rain, so not a suzie soaker but a decent enough amount that is certainly ponding up in places. For today everything is going to start very wet and end slushy and eventually icy as the wet firms back up. More info. to come later today!

3/5/25 - When it Rains it Pours (well hopefully not)

POKER RUN. - Saturday, hosted by Whiskey Jacks to benefit the Turin Ridge Riders! Details in the pics and on the Whiskey Jacks Page!

We have been above freezing for just about 24 hours now, no rain yet, which actually led to some enjoyable riding on Tuesday with warmer temps and trails that were groomed on Monday night. We are sitting at 41 degrees this morning and temps will climb as an ominous green blob of rain moves our way and will hit us later today and overnight as we head into Thursday. Temperatures will cool Thursday into Friday, back below freezing for the weekend and warm again next week, the spring freeze thaw roller coaster is getting going or so it seems.

No grooming from the TRR crew last night and with the warm temps that story will remain much the same through Friday or maybe even Saturday, all depends on how much moisture we get from this upcoming storm, how moisture laden the snow becomes, and how much standing water is around. We are also monitoring our lower elevation trails closely and will close them if we need to, snow condition dependent. For today expect soft and bumpy conditions in some areas due to the lack of grooming. We do anticipate that there will be decent to good riding to be had this weekend, though the playground could be just a bit smaller...tbd so stay tuned!

Oh and as for the title and the pics, had a track delaminate on one of our groomers...time to order a new one, but for now Skidmore the Blacktor will have to cheer from the sidelines. Nearly 4,000 hours on it so it is time...they just don't make things like they used to...😆. For those keeping score at home it is ~11K to replace one track so we truly appreciate the support of our members and those who make donations!
