Please be smart about your hiking and climbing. Even going in the early mornings and late evenings, you'll still need A LOT of water, even though it's heavy to carry. Rescuing hikers puts all our responders at risk!

‼ URGENT WATER NOTICE ‼ - The City must shut off water tonight, 8.20.26, at 10 pm. This will affect everyone on City water. Major repairs are needed on the water tower that require it to be drained. There is no exact timeline for repairs but we know water will be off through at least tomorrow morning.

The City will let you know when the water is back on and Boil Water Notice instructions will be given at that time.

Do not approach the water tower for any reason.

⚠️⚠️ Hey guys. Just a quick public service announcement.⚠️⚠️

If you're traveling to and from our area up to Lockney, Floydada, Plainview... please try to avoid FM 97 from Flomot up the cap and thru Cedar Hill. There are potholes the size of cars, but the bigger hazard are the dozens and dozens of semi-trucks coming and going from the AI site. They're all over the road. They aren't watching for cars, and it's not a matter of if they cause a wreck now. It's when.

To get from Turkey up the Cap, you can take highway 689 south of Quitaque to South Plains. Or 86 to Silverton. They're out of the way, but safer.

Also, the number of trucks in Turkey have increased dramatically as well. They're not as bad coming and going from the north, but still use caution. In town, warn your kids and loved ones on ATVs to use caution getting on 70 and coming and going from Allsups.

Departments working together were Floydada Volunteer Fire Dept. Matador Fire Department , Lockney Fire Department, Dougherty Fire Department, Silverton Vol. Fire Dept. , Flomot Fire Department, and several crews from TIFMAS with Texas A&M Forest Service which includes firefighters on deployment from all over Texas!

We have a Brush truck and Tanker enroute to assist Floydada Volunteer Fire Dept. With a grass fire on top of the cap near cedar hill. Please watch for responding trucks and equipment if traveling that area.

TVFD responded today with 3 trucks to a pickup on fire. Unfortunately, the vehicle was a total loss well before we could get on scene. It was several miles from town, and a good distance from the highway. The fire was contained before it could spread to nearby vegetation, thanks to the quick thinking of the driver, who quickly unhooked his trailer and moved the truck to a clear spot as soon as he noticed smoke. Thanks to Missy Pinner Minick for most of these photos!

Be sure and go to Quitaque tomorrow for some fun shopping and a burger to support the Quitaque Fire Department!!!
