📸 This month, we're taking a look back at John William Mitchell (1828–1895), founder of Turlock and one of the most influential figures in our community's early history.

Mitchell was a successful rancher, farmer, and landowner who recognized the importance of transportation to a growing community. He granted right-of-way to the Southern Pacific Railroad and negotiated for a depot in what would become Turlock, helping transform a small settlement into a growing town and bringing new residents, businesses, and opportunities to the area.

While John Mitchell may have been one of the first to move Turlock along its journey, he was by no means the last. Our community's history is filled with hardworking men and women who saw the potential of this community and dedicated themselves to helping it grow and thrive.

That same belief in Turlock's future continues today. As we enjoy the community we call home, we also carry forward the work of those who came before us, building upon the foundation they laid and continuing the pursuit of an even brighter future for generations to come.

Thank you to the Turlock Historical Society & Museum for helping preserve these important pieces of our community's history and sharing them with future generations.

🎆 Prepare Before the 4th of July Boom! 🎆

Did you know that more pets go missing on the 4th of July than any other day of the year? Loud fireworks can frighten even the calmest pets, causing them to run away from home.

🐾 Protect your pet with a microchip!

The City of Turlock is offering:

✅ FREE microchips for Turlock residents
✅ $5 microchips for non-residents

A microchip is a safe, permanent form of identification that greatly increases the chances of being reunited with your pet if they become lost.

Don’t wait until the fireworks start—take action now to help ensure your pet makes it safely through the holiday.

❤️ Help us help you recover your pet if they ever go missing.

🚧 Progress continues on the N. Beech Street road improvement project, between West Main and Florence!

The contractor has completed removal of the old pavement and is now regrading the roadway base in preparation for new asphalt. Funded through Measure A, this project is part of the City’s ongoing investment in maintaining and improving our infrastructure.

Investments like these help create safer, smoother, and more reliable roads for our community today and for years to come.

Thank you for your patience as this important work continues. We look forward to sharing more progress updates soon!

We’re proud to introduce Det. Jimenez, who is stepping into our rotational detective role. With 11 years serving our Turlock community, his track record is impressive—he’s served as a Field Training Officer, worked a previous four-year special assignment in our Special Investigations Unit (SIU), and is an active member of our SWAT Team.

We’re confident he’ll bring that same dedication to this new four-year assignment, and we’re excited to see him thrive in this next chapter! 👏
