Community Notice from the Turtle Lake Fire Department

We have recently been made aware that a company called Community Safety Net may be contacting local businesses asking for donations while referencing the Turtle Lake Fire Department.

While Community Safety Net appears to be a legitimate organization, we want to be clear that the Turtle Lake Fire Department is not hosting, sponsoring, or partnering with them for a fundraiser. Our department was told that donations collected would help provide free safety books for children in our community; however, we are not involved in their fundraising efforts.

The Turtle Lake Fire Department keeps our fundraising efforts local and community-based. If we are raising funds, you will hear about it directly from our department members or from our page.

If your business receives a call from Community Safety Net, we respectfully ask that you politely decline their request for a donation on our behalf.

We greatly appreciate the support of our local businesses and community members. Your generosity means a lot to us, and we want to make sure the money donated to our department stays in our department.

Thank you for always supporting local.

The Turtle Lake Fire District was dispatched to the area of US Highway 8 and 50th Street in Beaver Township for a reported grass fire that was initially believed to be around 2 acres in size.

When firefighters arrived, they found a much different situation. A 40-acre field with medium fuel was actively burning, and the fire was moving quickly. Turtle Lake crews immediately began attacking the fire and requested mutual aid from Apple River Fire.

When Apple River arrived, they were asked to check on smoke showing south of the original fire. While doing that, they located a second separate fire about a quarter mile south that was also burning out of control.

With the fire continuing to spread and multiple areas involved, additional mutual aid was requested from Amery Fire, Clayton Fire, and the Wisconsin DNR, due to the fire’s location in the Joel Marsh area.

By the time the incident was brought under control, the fire had burned an estimated 100 acres.

The Wisconsin DNR and DNR Conservation Wardens are investigating the cause of the fire. The Polk County Sheriff’s Department also assisted on scene.

We want to thank all of the agencies that responded and worked together on this incident. Calls like this take a team effort, and we appreciate the help.

Due to a temporary staffing shortage at the Turtle Lake Police Department, we’re proud to announce a joint operations agreement between local agencies.

In an effort to continue protecting and serving our community, members of the Turtle Lake Fire Department have officially stepped in to assist with patrol duties.

That’s right, if you see turnout gear pulling traffic stops or responding to calls… don’t be alarmed. It’s all part of the plan.

We’re calling it: Fire Police Initiative 2026™ 👨‍🚒🚓

Special thanks to our highly trained (and definitely qualified) firefighters for stepping up and keeping our streets safe… one hose line at a time.

All jokes aside... the Turtle Lake Police Department is currently hiring!

If you’ve ever considered a career in law enforcement and serving your community, now’s your chance.

📝 Applications are open until April 10th
